A nifty little acoustic bass with plenty of potential.

Pros:
+ Nice sound, both acoustic and electric. (With reservation on the low E, see below). Can tap but not really slap. Fingerstyle is king but responds well to picking too.
+ Built-in tuner, easy to tune, holds tuning well
+ Lightweight and comfortable, with or without a strap.
+ Super easy to play. Very light touch.
+ Well set up right off the box.
+ The Koa looks fabulous and sounds nice and warm.
+ Good workmanship. It's a mass-produced factory instrument though, don't expect any extra frills. Utilitarian, but everything works.

Cons:
- Weird overtone in the lowest string. Gets better with age though.
- The active pickup signal is pretty low and somehat noisy. Still works though. You just need to add gain and low-pass the signal.
- Needs special strings. For a good reason though: The nylon core is the secret why it works so well. Also the strings seem to last pretty long and age well.

High quality, playability and great sound.

As a guitarist for about forty years, I felt the desire to enjoy the deep sound of the bass and especially the double bass without great stretches of the fingers and joints, combined with a huge musical instrument which is difficult to carry/transport.

Taylor company created the GS mini-e series which is a super shortscale acoustic bass in parlor guitar size. It wears special strings that one needs to get used to. So there is a limit since you can not experiment as with a conventional acoustic or electric bass changing brands, types and different materials of strings. But this is the only compromise you have to make. This instrument produces a great sound that resembles upright bass, is extremely comfortable to play and easily portable.

I chose the version with koa wood because in various demos I watched and heard, I liked it not only aesthetically but also acoustically. If you want to enjoy GS mini properly through the pickup, you need an amplifier for acoustic (not electrical) instruments.

Amazing bass guitar. It sounds so warm by itself. Sounds better than most 4/4 acoustic basses.

Ich habe ein Homestudio und mache eigene Musik (Richtung Blues u.ä.). Ich habe ziemlich lange gezögert, mir den Taylor GS Mini-e Koa Bass anzuschaffen, nicht zuletzt, weil ich irgendwie nicht glauben konnte, dass eine dermaßen kleine Gitarre einen respektablen Klang hervorbringen kann... Ich habe mich geirrt, und zwar bei weitem. Ein erstaunlich voller, stabiler Klang auf allen Seiten, der sehr stark an Kontrabas erinnert, ohne natürlich dessen Gewalt zu haben. Auch die Elektronik ist gut, kann mir vorstellen, dass sie auch auf der Bühne im Ensemble ihren Dienst gut machen würde. Die Verarbeitung ist exzellent. Das einzige, was ich anders machen würde; die Kanten zwischen Zargen/Decke und Zargen/Boden sind ziemlich scharf, was meinem rechten Oberschenkelmuskulatur, da ich überwiegend im Sitzen spiele, nicht gut tut. Ich habe einige Westerngitarren und die Kannten sind überall rund. Ich ziehe deshalb aber kein Sternchen ab, dafür verwende ich halt eine Filzunterlage (vielleicht ist diese "scharfe" Verarbeitungsart konstruktionsbedingt und für die Klangerzeugung vom Vorteil?). Und der Klang ist echt super! Und da der Minibass sehr leicht ist, vor allem im Vergleich zu meinen E-Bässen, eignet er sich sehr gut fürs stundenlange Üben. Übrigens; für diese Material- Verarbeitungs- und, vor allem, Klangqualität finde ich den Preis mehr als angemessen. Probiert es unbedingt aus.
