SSL UC1

UC1 is a plugin controller. It works perfectly with SSL Channel Strip 2 and Bus Compressor 2 plugins. All you have to do is insert the channel strip plugin in every channel on your DAW and then you can mix your track by using the controller. No need to use the mouse at all. If you want a visual feedback of what you do, you have the 360 software that runs in parallel with your DAW giving you a real console mixing feel. Combining UC1 with UF8 you get everything in your hands and your mixing workflow will get really fast. The only con is that it supports only two plugins by now. It would be nice to see more plugins in the future and why not API and Neve emulations.

I've just recieved the UC1 unit, and I am shocked how easy is it to control plugin in realtime 4K B has a really musical color, my mix suddenly went alive because I was listening and no so much looking at the screen.. Only downside, in transport mode stop and play button is not working, maybe i will figure it out, I use Reaper as my DAW, buss comp is amazing and VERY responsive so you can feel the track as it compresses , so far I have an amazing experience and I can only thank you guys from Thomann, you are truly the best! build quality is top notch, for this price, don't ask for more , the feel of the knobs is almost like a real console , I already use SSL2 interface and it goes great with it, the simplicity and the sound is pure SSL I love it, thank you guys!

when not using the UC1 for few minutes, s it goes into DIMM mode but it's still working when you touch anything, great feature really impressed by the unit and not dissapointed from SSL , channel strip 2 is very nice and it even has E (4000 series) emulation button that sounds more surgical for some sources if you like that sound, the setup was easy after the software 360 recognized the UC1 , just activate the licence download plugin and you're good to go..

if you are thinking about if you should spend this amount of money or save it and mix in the box, don't ..If you are serious about it buy, you won't regret it for a second.

1 more thing, it has small "legs" that you can screw below UC1 if it's to low for you, they have thought of everything just you to be comfortable,

everything works great, buy it , you will start to appriciate more your ear rather than screen, enjoy folks!

We have had two of these units and would highly recommend them, but only if you are committed to SSL as these units work well with the accompanying plugins which to date are the SSL Native Channel Strip (9000 series), the SSL 4000B and 4000E series emulations as well as the bus compressor.

These provide a variety of options in terms of sonic characteristics. The workflow across all three is the same and this allows you to build muscle memory. If you have worked on an SSL console and are fond of the SSL sound then this is definitely something you’ll like.

If you like to use a multitude of different console emulations and mix and match your plugins, this may not be for you. It’s best used with an SSL plugin on every channel to create a virtual console, although 360 link provides custom mapping, it isn’t as easy or intuitive as using the SSL options.

After spending a few weeks with the SSL UC1 on the desk, I can honestly say it’s one of those tools that quietly becomes essential. I wasn’t expecting it to change how I mix, but it genuinely has.
The build quality is rock solid, and if you’ve ever worked on an SSL desk, the layout feels instantly familiar. The tight integration with the Channel Strip and Bus Compressor plugins is seamless—it’s fast, tactile, and makes it easy to stay in the zone. No clicking through plugin windows, no losing momentum. You just reach out and mix. The meter bridge adds a nice bit of visual feedback too—it really feels like a compact console on your desk.
One thing it made me wish: that other plugin manufacturers would follow suit. Imagine being able to reach for a physical Distressor, 1176, or LA-2A that’s mapped 1:1 with the software. That kind of hands-on control, with the exact same layout as the plugin you’re using, would be incredible. SSL nailed it here, and it shows what’s possible.
If you mix in the box and lean toward SSL’s sound, the UC1 is a no-brainer. It’s not just a controller—it changes how you interact with your mix. I didn’t expect to love it this much, but now I can’t imagine working without it.
