Sennheiser XSW IEM Set E-Band

I bought this system for gigging as a guitarist/backing vocalist with a cover band. The band has drums, bass, acoustic guitar, electric guitar, lead singer and 2 background vocalists. The singer has Shure wireless system and the others use IEM with cables. I already had Line6 Relay G50 wireless system for the guitar and wanted to get totally wireless to be able to mess around for my own and the audiences amusement.

I have used the unit at 4 gigs now, 2 of them inside in rather small night clubs and 2 outside on bigger stages. I haven't had any problems whatsoever, no dropouts, no messing up with other signals or anything. Unfortunately I've only used the unit in mono, so I haven't been able to test panning and focus functions at a live setting. Using the unit and getting started is very easy and I guess you could do without ever looking at the manual. However, I encourage you to at least see through the manual, for there's lots of valuable information that might help you avoid any unnecessary hustle.

One thing you should know is that I used KZ AS16 earpieces with the unit, I wouldn't use the ones delivered with the set at a gig. At least consider changing the tips for ones that stay better at place and keep out any unwanted noise. Another thing is the fairly loud hissing noise that you hear when using the unit wireless. However, it didn't bother me at all while performing. I heard the mix perfectly fine and for once was able to sing in tune. When using the headphones output of the unit, the hiss is almost absent.
One thing that bothers me a bit is that they claim that the unit has a limiter, where as in my opinion that's quite a stretch to say the least. It may be that I've misunderstood something, but I've thought that a limiter should step in and cut any too loud peaks of noise above a set threshold that might damage your hearing. Now, if I've understood the manual correctly, the unit actually doesn't have any limiter when using it wireless. The manual says: "...you can adjust the volume of the PHONES headphones output. When set to ON, the volume is reduced by 10 dB." And later: "The limiter limits the volume of the headphones output PHONES and thus protects your hearing." So, it seems that the "limiter" only reduces the level by 10 dB when using the unit with a cable, but even then doesn't cut out any sudden squeals etc, should they appear. This is quite disappointing, since I specifically looked for a unit with a limiter. If I'm mistaken about this issue, I'm more than happy to change my review.
Both the transmitter and the receiver are light, plastic housing, so not very sturdy. I'd encourage you to pack the units carefully between shows and avoid dropping them.

All in all, in my experience this system is quite enough for live gigging. However, if you are a professional musician gigging often you'd might want to invest into an even higher quality system with a more solid build.

Price, ease of use, reliability (only 4 gigs, though)

Hissing noise might bother some (not audible when playing), no actual limiter that cuts out loud signals above a set threshold, plastic housing

Very disappointed by Sennheiser which has always been very good.
But not this time, I'm not the first to complain but yes, a lot of extraneous noise, and above all a lot of dropout.

I am a professional musician and I needed a system to go on tour.
I had to simply give up and start working with monitors on stage again.

I'll invest in equipment that does not sound like a cheap walkie talkie toy for kids.
Useless, do not buy this product!

Als Schlagzeuger in mehreren Bands habe ich mich immer wieder über den stark wechselnden Monitorsound geärgert.

Ihr kennt das vielleicht: Man arbeitet mit verschiedenen Technikern zusammen und es wird einem "irgendetwas" hingestellt. Oft war es nicht möglich mich zu orientieren. Wie soll man da grooven wenn der Monitor zu leise ist oder sch…e klingt.



Da hab ich mir mal von Thomann ein drahtlos IN-Ear System kommen lassen. Ich hab das SENNHEISER XSW IEM ausgesucht, weil es mich vom Design her angesprochen hat und der Preis meinen Möglichkeiten entspricht.

Die Inbetriebnahme ist sehr einfach, ein klar verständlicher, bebilderter Quick Guide hilft dabei.



Mir ist ein druckvoller Klang wichtig und genügend Lautstärkereserven (wenn der Gitarrist wieder mal in Ekstase durch- bzw. aufdreht) - beides erfüllt das System zu meiner höchsten Zufriedenheit. Gewöhnungsbedürftig ist das sehr leichte Gehäuse des Bodypacks aus Kunststoff aber es hat schon zwei Abstürze tadellos überstanden und funktioniert einwandfrei!



Lobenswert finde ich die kontrastreichen Displays an Sender und Empfänger welches auch im Freien bei voller Sonneneinstrahlung einfach zum ablesen ist.



P.S. Hab mir noch einen Sennheiser IE 300 Pro gegönnt der den Sound nochmal deutlich aufwertet. Der Hörer im Lieferumfang bleibt als Reserve in der Tasche.

Produit acheté en remplacement d'un PSM 200 pour cause de plages de fréquences incompatibles avec certains pays où je dois me rendre pour jouer.
A ce jour, une seule utilisation (donc avis à réviser avec plus d'expérience) et un résultat très mitigé.
Le produit est de bonne facture et de conception robuste.
la prise en main est plutôt facile.
Mais les problèmes les plus importants sont apparus en utilisation scénique.
Confronté à la proximité d'autres émetteurs sur différentes fréquences (dont beaucoup sur la bande de 2.4 Ghz) l'appareil a présenté de très nombreux décrochages et d'importantes perturbations de réception le rendant fréquemment inopérant.
Une étude approfondie de la documentation m'a incité à réaliser de nouveaux réglages qui pourront soit confirmer ces problèmes d'utilisation soit les résoudre.
En comparaison, et dans le même environnement, les PSM 200 de Shure n'ont subi aucune perturbation.
Avis à compléter avec plus d'utilisation et de nouveaux réglages.
Avis complété après plusieurs expériences live :
De très gros problèmes de décrochages et ce quelle que soient les fréquences sélectionnées. Des heures de réglages et de recherches n'y ont rien fait. Le système décroche alors que l'émetteur est à quelques mètres du récepteur.
Trop d'incertitudes lors des live.
Matériel abandonné au profit d'un appareil considéré comme "bien plus bas en gamme" mais qui lui fonctionne parfaitement.
