Miditech Midiface 16x16

Works great and solid as a rock! Feels very responsive. Just a word of caution, the faceplace / screwholes in the unit are not standard in size, so you need adjustable/movable holes in your rack to make the unit fit the the rest of your equipment. If you have standard/permanent holes, then the unit will not fit correctly (you can use only two screws to fasten the unit and there will be gaps to the other equipment in your rack). I have the unit hidden so it does not bother me. But, really solid unit. Love it!

As usual, Miditech provides a solid product that does exactly what it says on the box, no questions asked. This solved all my midi issues, caused by having way to much stuff. Since it's a midi interface, and not a midi router, it requires me to have the computer started to play my rack synths, but the alternatives are more expensive, *and* has less ports.

One nitpick: The channels are numbered left to right on the front, as expected, but the actual outputs and inputs on the back go from right to left, as seen from the front. This means that the midicable position and the lights on the front do not match up. Which sometimes is confusing.

Also, this unit is an unusual 1.5 units high, so if you are planning to put it into a rack you might want to buy a 1/2U blank panel to avoid having an unsightly half unit hole in your rack.

When a zombie apocalypse strikes, this midi interface could save your life. Casing build like a tank.
Insides... I am not sure. Something moves and rattles inside my unit when I move it or shake it a little. Despite this, the device works properly in the rack, so far. I don't want to open it (don't want to void the warranty), so I don't know what was flying around inside.

If you have a lot of hardware synth this interface does everything you need, even if you transmit on 256 midi channels at once. It sends and receives signals without errors (including sysex) even with a very long midi cables. Clearly a quality engineering.

It hides all the 16 ins and 16 outs at the back.

Works out of the box with Windows, MacOS and Linux (I checked).

This interface is probable your best choice if you are looking for a professional, versatile USB midi interface with lots of inputs and outputs for a computer running OS of your choice, and want to keep all that midi cables out of sight.
