Perfect stand, tightens transients, slam
SoundProfessor 03.10.2025
Well made stand in KM high quality as you would expect. Was not thinking much of a "ring lock" stand until I tried it myself. The pole extends from when inside the speaker slot which makes the coupling to pole tighter with the speaker. This again reduces resonances and play. Soundwise, this tightens transients and bass a bit. Effect is small but noticable surely, there is slightly more slam from the speaker with vs. without the ring lock. Effect in my case is stronger with lower end speakers like Alto TS415 which benefits a lot from this stand. On LD Stinger 15A G3 effect is also clear. On RCF 915 and above, the effect is slightly less prominent perhaps but still noticable. I think RCF speakers perhaps have been already designed to have transients snap while placed on loosely coupled poles or so, so there is slightly less effect. The stand is easy to use lock unlock. As for stability this is a round base stand so it requires you screw the pole onto the base. The screwed connnection into the base can be a bit loose and need optimal tightening. If you do not tighten the pole properly to the pole then there is some play of pole angle not being completely straight, just a bit off, with a 25 kg speaker on top of the pole, but it is stable enough for me. Do not overtighten the pole to base, I am pretty sure this will destroy the screw... Sure round stand stability is not as good as you get from tripod but it works fine. Cant beat a round stand for small footprint vs tripod though.

Usual K&M quality - with a twist
Gionson 06.02.2018
K&M Stands are always the first choice, but this one is pretty cool...

I am using them both as free stands and as distance poles for a "Line Source/Point array" style tops. The tops are not centrally weighted, but the poles and baseplates still provide a sturdy base - with a bit of wobble - but it would take a lot to push them over.

The Ring Lock system is interesting, and I think works better for a speaker with a recess in the bottom. But... The mechanism is excellent, and will support the weight of a front loaded speaker, without having to use the speakers locking screw... Very Impressive.

Thorsten
