After winding my guitar strings manually for several years, I finally decided to purchase a proper string winder. The "Ernie Ball Peg Winder Plus" tool caught my attention since it also had a pin puller (for acoustic guitars) integrated in the tip of its handle.
Upon initial use, I could not believe how much easier string winding was with a proper tool. No need to straing my wrist in the process any longer!
The handle of the tool is ergonomic and provides excellent grip. The tool itself is made from high-quality plastic, it rotates smoothly (without any clunking), and keeps the tuning peg in a firm grip (no fear for slipping).
I had previously struggled with pulling the string holder pins out from the bridge of my acoustic steel string guitar. Earlier I used pliers to do the job, often damaging the pins in the process. The pin puller tool integrated in the string winder provides a firm yet gentle grip on the pins allowing me to remove them with minimal effort without any fear of damaging the pins.
The string winder has two alternative perpendicular slots into which the tuning peg can be inserted. The product is well-compatible with all of my guitars (6 of them) even though their tuning pegs are of different shapes and sizes.
I can warmly recommend this product to all guitarists (I cannot speak on behalf of bassists as I don't own any bass guitars). After one year of active use, the string winder has not shown any signs of damage or wearing. I am sure that it will remain functional for years to come.
