I have used several pickups on my guitar, and at times, it's been a struggle to find a sound what I'm looking for.
However, once I installed my EMG 60, it has been my workhorse ever since then. If there was one word to describe it, it would be "Powerful". That's what I felt the first time trying it, just sheer power that energized me and made me play in a different way. There was a whole new punchiness to everything, and it took me a while to tame it, like a horse, so to speak.
This, was partly due to the fact it was the first active pickup I had tried, but of course, there are nuances and character there that's completely unique to the EMG 60. I love the warmth, power and intensity.
You can use it in heavy stuff, but it also has surprising range in other kind of music too, and it completely crushed my preconceptions that EMG pickups are only for "metal". That's not the case.
Pickup reviews in general are always subjective. Even if you buy a product that others praised, it might not exactly be what you want, but I can tell you, regardless of your preferences, EMG 60 is a great place to start, if you're on your quest to find the perfect tone, like I was.
I recommend it wholeheartedly.
