Electro Harmonix 1440 Stereo Looper

Around 2022 January EHX released v0.57 firmware update that fixes few bugs like tempo sync with some midiclock devices and adds ability to control pedal with CC and Program Change commands. Excellent additions and I have added one more star for my review because of that.

My small, mostly DAWless synth setup needed a way to record loops and song ideas without computer. This looper was simple solution that still leaves my hands free to play the keys. Especilly when combined with the Triple Foot Controller that I bought with this looper.

Best features for me are internal memory that can be accessed with computer by usb cable and 1440 pedal loop manager software. Tempo display that gives me song bpm. It also shows the correct tempo with a small dot after recording loop in external sync mode. Octave effect and reverse are also nice to have.

There was a day spent learning this pedal because of many features. I did not own any dedicated loopers before.
The footswitch travel leads to a tiny lag to when you want to start or stop the loop but "press down at the end of earlier bar" -timing worked perfectly and now my loops are seamless.

(This has been fixed with firmware 0.57!) There is a one big caveat to this pedal! To Midi sync to work correctly this pedal needs high quality Master clock device, because all playback is tied to it in external sync mode. If the tempo drifts or bounces around the tempo of sound coming out from the pedel is also doing that while loopiing. Captured sound itself is fine and it has fixed tempo but loop playback sounds really odd when this happens.
It happened to me while trying to sync pedal to signal from DAW on a laptop and from Novation Circuit but never with Midi clock from Arturia Keystep, there the timing is rock solid. The current firmware on the pedal is only 0.54, and EHX is working on this so in future wider range of devices should be suitable.

Looper is easy to use, has enough memory for my use and has worked rock solid the couple of months I have had it. I really like it.

One more thing. I do recommend silencer pedal as a first device in the pedalboard with synths & fx pedals + looper combo. After ten recorded loop layers all the inherent noise you have in your system becomes quite audible.

Je cherchais à associer ma Beatbuddy à un looper synchronisé MIDI et hésitais entre plusieurs modèles pour finalement choisir l'EHX 1440, ayant eu plusieurs pédales de cette marque dont je suis très satisfait. Il faut d'abord savoir que le câble sync Beatbuddy est indispensable, MAIS il faut l'associer à un second câble midi mâle - mâle (si ça peut faire gagner du temps à ceux qui lisent ce commentaire...) pour l'introduire dans le looper. Résultat: la pédale est reconnue immédiatement et tout se déroule pour le mieux dans le meilleur des mondes, c'est quand même le top d'avoir la batterie parfaitement calée avec le loop, n'est-ce pas? Fills, loop qui s'arrête sur l'outro, tout fonctionne. A savoir qu'il faut appuyer sur le loop un peu avant la partie à enregistrer et appuyer de nouveau un peu avant la mesure qui reprend, faut prendre le pli mais en 2 sessions je les rentre presque systématiquement. L'avantage, c'est qu'il y a 2 footswitchs, inutile donc d'appuyer 2x pour stopper la boucle. Je n'ai pas lu la notice, la pédale est donc très intuitive, cela dit, les autres fonctions ne m'intéressent pas (fader, octave, reverse etc...), je voulais juste une pédale facile à gérer pour faire un solo à l'occasion sur mes propres rythmes en concert, et celle-ci correspond totalement à mes attentes.
EDIT MAI 2021: une pédale très addictive, solide dont je suis très satisfait. Etant artiste solo, je l'utilise beaucoup et suis finalement vite arrivé à occuper mes 20 emplacements. L'idéal eût été d'avoir davantage de mémoire, le double à mon goût. Autrement RAS!
