Bought this to try in my Epiphone SG Modern, in which i tried a lot of bridge humbuckers to get the sound i wanted (I'm less fussy about the neck pickups). The stock Epi Probuckers are pretty decent actually, but a little soft and somehow bloated in the midrange to my ears. I tried the usual Duncans i had around, JB, Custom (SH-5), Custom custom (SH-11). Tested the Saturday Night Special and Phat Cat bridge pickups too. But i felt the guitar had just too much of everything and every pickup i tried was just too bassy, middy and trebly all at once! Messing with the pickup heights didn't help much either. I finally got around to try a pair of inexpensive PAF-style humbuckers and understood what the guitar needed, a little more vintage output pickups! Although those cheap PAF-types were really nice, in the end i felt they were a little too clean. I read a lot of reviews and the Dimarzio 36th anniversaries were recommended in many places. I'm super happy i took the chance! (I had tried the Dimarzio Air Zone in the past and really didn't like that one at all) But this (F-spaced bridge version) 36th really suprised me, straight away i noticed that it had some burn while still being a lower output bucker. The sound isn't too bassy or stiff, the lows are solid but have this nice slight looseness to my ears. The mids have this singing quality to them, just a cool melodic voice that makes me wanna play more. Highs are sweet in a suprising way, totally clear and there, but never piercing like most others i've tried. It has a great crunchy rocking sound, just what i was after! Got the neck version 36th anniversary to go with the bridge one, they are a nicely balanced pair. I think i'm a convert, definately will try dimarzio again!
