Classic looks, complex sound

With the Caz series, the Turkish cymbal specialist Zultan has created a collection of extremely inexpensive handcrafted cymbals made of premium B20 bronze. Their sound profile has been carefully tuned to make them ideal for Jazz, as well as other genres that tend towards the mellow. The cymbals are manufactured in Turkey using methods that have remained more or less unchanged for centuries, with a great emphasis on skilled handcraft – the simple, classic look of the cymbals is just as traditional as the workmanship itself. The Caz range includes numerous Crash, Crash/Ride, Ride, Sizzle Ride, and Hi-Hat models; two pre-configured sets are also available.

Quality craftsmanship at a competitive price

Merely mentioning handcrafted cymbals from Turkey is enough to get knowledgeable drummers and percussionists pricking up their ears. However, a look at the prices involved will often have their jaws dropping, too. This is exactly where Zultan's Caz cymbals come in: Rarely has so much musical mojo been available for so little money. Now, some of the premium models from the established brands truly are outstanding – but the Caz cymbals, which are completely hand-lathed and hammered over their entire surface, are extremely competitive contenders. The 21" ride here brings a full, warm, earthy sound – with fine treble detail and surprisingly silvery stick definition.

Jazz in Turkish

Caz is simply the Turkish word for Jazz, and it's clear that these cymbals have been designed with that very purpose in mind. Jazz drummers need light instruments that react to the gentlest touch and deliver a balanced, harmonious sound across all dynamic levels, from soft to loud. Of course, this applies not only to Jazz, but to genres like Blues, Funk, Latin, and Soul, where Caz cymbals can also be played to their strengths. As such, this 21" ride can be used in a variety of ways, delivering just the right sound for each of the aforementioned genres, and responding well to rods or brushes, too.

About Zultan

To provide traditional craftsmanship at a fair price has been the guiding principle of Zultan ever since it was founded in 2000. The firm’s practice of selling directly to the end customer makes it possible to offer very customer-friendly prices. Nevertheless, the production process for Zultan’s trademark cymbals, which are made mainly in Turkey, is of the highest quality, a fact which has ensured they have also been a fixture in the Thomann range since 2011. The nearly 250 Zultan products cover several cymbal series, catering for all sectors of the music market. Zultan also offers accessories such as bags and drumsticks. Thanks to the use of high-quality materials and manufacturing expertise, Zultan really does offer uncompromising quality at a reasonable price.

Zultan 21" Caz Ride, Jazz cymbal

Jazz is just the beginning…

The Zultan Caz cymbals may have Jazz in their name, but can be used almost universally and are at home wherever pleasant, balanced cymbals are required – they have a warm sound spectrum without jarring frequencies. This is the case for all kinds of acoustic, unamplified music, which might include unplugged guitar sessions, but also live Salsa gigs or Gospel concerts in churches. Of course, there's nothing to stop Caz cymbals being used with amplified music too, as long as they're played sensitively and with the right tools. The Zultan 21" Caz Ride is a very versatile plate, ready to be the reliable centrepiece of almost any drumkit; its warm articulation and stable sustain means it'll harmonise with the other elements of a kit and the rest of the band beautifully.

Great sound!
Zacharie 08.04.2015
I play in a heavy and psychedelic band and this cymbal is awesome. It helps me getting the moods I want and it does it well. The cymbal will explode if you hit it hard which I need while rocking out but will deliver a great shimmer when played softly. I wanted to try the 22" as I generally use bigger cymbals (15 hats, 18 and 20 crashes, 21 or 22 rides etc) but the 21" does the job. The bell isn't as big as I wished, I need to aim at it with care if I want to get the bell sound only. But that shimmer, man, it's as good as any Zildjian I played.

This solved all my problems

It's a fine ride!
Amazing, sort of dark-ish tone (but not too dark)
The Bell sound is soft and bright to my ears, it does absolutely great on recordings and also crashes pretty nicely for a 21" ride cymbal.
It's obviously great for jazz (hence the name), but I can also see it work on blues, funky music or even folk rock, new age or experimental music.
It's not very loud, so I'm particularly happy about that, since I don't like rehearsing at 160dB and don't hate my own ears.
Another thing, albeit subjective, is: it sounds like rain to me. You start playing on it and it's like a cloudburst.
Goosebumps!
Will always get another one, should I somehow break it one day.

An amazing cymbal for the price!
Tommy B 26.05.2020
I bought this cymbal as a mellow 'lighter' ride based on the many good reviews, and I wasn't disappointed.
The cymbal is med-light (2200g) and bendable, with a smaller bell and has a lovely 'shimmery' sound, with nice woody stick definition and a Zildjian K-like amount of complexity. It crashes nicely too, although it is definitely a mellow sounding cymbal and is more suited to quieter settings.
I can't really fault the sound or the quality for the price.

After using it for 5 years this ride is absolutely my favorite, I love how it sound and I love the feedback coming from it while playing and when playing with different sticks.
To me it's very versatile and unique, and I instantly miss it if I play on a different ride.
