Dozens of vocal effects in one unit
With a wide range of professional vocal effects – from pitch correction through unison and octave to vocoder and talkbox – the Zoom V6 SP offers a broad range of ways for singers to adjust and manipulate their voices. Beyond that, though, it includes features that often require their own dedicated device: An integrated looper with up to 3:30 minutes of recording time makes it possible to build layered overdub performances, while the formant expression pedal reshapes the tonal character of the voice in real time, without affecting pitch. Out of the box, there are 40 preset patches to play with, which can be tailored and stored as complete effect setups across up to 100 memory slots – ideal for recalling different sound configurations quickly. Built-in studio effects such as reverb and delay round out the package.
Two harmony parts in one take
The Zoom V6 SP goes beyond what would typically be expected from a vocal processor, although its core function is a strong level of musical control over the voice. Using the central rotary dial, a specific key can be selected directly, allowing pitch correction and multi-part harmony vocals to respond cleanly and intuitively within a given musical context. Creative studio effects such as echo or chorus add further character. One particularly interesting effect is Beat Box, which compresses and accentuates the signal in such a way that percussive vocalisations sound even more like drum hits. To capture all of this creative potential, the V6 SP also works as an audio interface (up to 32-bit/44.1 kHz). All the essential connections for microphone, PA, and monitoring are in place too, but the emphasis remains firmly on performance – from musical pitch processing through to expressive live effects.
Looping endless arrangements
The Zoom V6 SP is suited to singers, musicians, and sound designers looking to record creative vocal parts for both live and studio use. It features a high-quality microphone preamp, a highly versatile vocal effects palette, and a range of integrated studio effects. The formant-shifting expression pedal and the harmony section work closely together, making it easy to shape voices flexibly and control multi-part arrangements intuitively. The integrated looper adds to this by allowing performers to build vocal lines on the fly, with layered arrangements taking shape in real time – ideal for overdubs, live performance, or quick creative sketches. The Zoom V6 SP doesn't even need mains power: It can also run on four AA batteries, so it's easy to take the setup straight out into a street performance with a portable speaker.
About Zoom
Founded in 1983, the Japanese company Zoom manufactures a variety of audio equipment, including a range of portable "handy" recorders as well as multi-effects processors, effects pedals, drum machines, and samplers. Over the past thirty years, the company has built a reputation for producing innovative yet affordable products based on original microchip designs. Since the Zoom-9002 (an ultra-compact multi-effects processor that can be attached to a guitar strap) was introduced in 1990, Zoom has become one of the leaders in digital audio processing.
Apply all three processors to one effect
To shape their vocals in more distinctive ways, performers can combine one processor from each of the three sections at the same time, saving the exact setup in the memory as required. The Voice section alters the signal with effects such as talkbox, vocoder, or bass octave, while the Harmony section adds two additional voices to create three-part harmonies, either in freely selectable keys or simply as higher or lower voices at the push of a button. The Effect section then layers studio effects such as the adjustable delay onto the signal. Dedicated dials make it easy to adjust the intensity of the Voice and Effect sections, while the Harmony section uses a mix control to set the balance between the original signal and the generated harmony voices. A built-in compressor and an enhancer (EQ, de-esser) further refine the microphone signal coming from the V6 SP’s integrated preamp.
