The perfect saxonphone sound

The Yamaha YTS-875 EXS tenor saxophone offers musicians a broad sound spectrum, helping them to maximise their musical potential with its full tone. This masterclass instrument was developed in collaboration with some of the world's most talented saxophonists, including Nobuya Sugawa, Jean-Yves Fourmeau, and Otis Murphy. It’s an evolution of the well-received Custom 875, on which it is based. This model is defined by an enhanced, more responsive performance while retaining a well-rounded, cultured sound full of vibrant timbres. Anyone who chooses this instrument will benefit from its phenomenal projection and beautifully centred core. At the same time, this saxophone boasts exquisite aesthetics. Made from specially treated brass and then expertly silver-plated, it features a hand-engraved lily design.

Refined with a passion for detail

The manufacturer has meticulously implemented the suggestions of renowned saxophonists, as well as incorporating the findings of year-long studies. Consequently, the size and shape of the keys on the Yamaha YTS-875 EXS tenor saxophone have been modified. Additionally, the new custom E1 S-bow increases resonance and provides a faster response. The two-point bell brace helps the tenor saxophone to produce a tone both effective and appealing. Yamaha has also optimised the tone holes; the intonation is better than ever, and the key system has been completely revised. Changes to the shape and mechanism of the F key and palm keys, for example, provide a smooth playing experience for the saxophonist. The Yamaha YTS-875 EXS offers unparalleled comfort thanks to its ergonomic key design.

The zenith of saxophone production

The Yamaha YTS-875 EXS is aimed at experienced saxophonists and professional musicians looking for an exceptional instrument in terms of sound, playability, and functionality. This high-quality instrument stands out from the mainstream crowd for a variety of reasons; really, it represents something of a milestone in saxophone manufacturing. The bell is hammered from a single sheet of brass, just as an example. This gives the body the appearance of a single unit, while also softening the response, particularly in the middle and low registers. Resistance has also been optimised, resulting in a more colourful sound character without compromising flexibility. Thus equipped and customised, this tenor saxophone is the ideal companion for every musical genre, from Jazz to Pop, Funk, Soul and many more. The tenor saxophone is a versatile instrument that grows with the player.

About Yamaha

Yamaha has been one of the world’s most renowned manufacturers of musical instruments and audio technology for many decades. The Japanese company's long history began with the harmonium at the end of the 19th century. Its portfolio has grown continuously ever since. Today, Yamaha is one of the few manufacturers that can provide almost the entire spectrum of musical instruments, including pianos, guitars, wind and string instruments, drums and percussion, and electronic keyboards and synthesizers. The company is also an established name in sound engineering, manufacturing mixing tables, amplifiers, PA systems and more. Yamaha's guiding principle is said to be the fusion of traditional craftsmanship and modern technology.

A legend, revolutionised

The Yamaha YTS-875 EXS has been one of the most popular tenor saxophones for some time now: Among musicians, it has earned an excellent reputation. This instrument has graced the most diverse stages around the world and has been immortalised on countless recordings. In order to stay at the top of its game and remain popular with musicians, Yamaha has treated this instrument (which is based on its own Custom 875) to an innovative and functional programme of rejuvenation and optimisation. The results of this revolution are instantly visible, immediately audible, and almost tangible. This process of revision was intended to achieve a synergy of ergonomic comfort, optimum intonation, and a beautiful, soft tone. Clearly, the manufacturer has succeeded here: The Yamaha YTS-875 EXS is the musical proof of that – it's a true masterclass instrument.

Good but lacks somethig

I'm a professional player.
Tried this one because It is known to have the most focused and weighted tone in the yamaha range.
The saxophone is very well built and deliver a solid centered tone but from my point of view it lacks some kind of personality and it's anyway still very bright.
For the rest it has very good mechanism and a response that is quite linear but not direct and easy as other yamaha saxes. this is not necessarily a cons, maybe it has to be played a little more to be understood.
I think this is because of some resistance put in place by the E1 neck... well suited for classical and maybe bright pop and r&b sax sound.. I wouldn't raccomand it if one wishes to develop a very personal tone. Anyway a very good pro horn.

YTS 875EXS

This is my retirement present to myself. I purchased this in December 2022, sorry for the delay writing a review.
As usual with Thomann it arrived extremely well protected in its original Yamaha cardboard box and then in the Thomann packaging and box.
I had it checked over by my repair tech, and set up to my specifications. I have played it for over 2 years now, and have just returned it to the the tech for a service, as there was a bit of double motion in the octave mechanism.
I have really enjoyed playing the 875EXS, so much so that I have bought a pre-used 875EXB as a back-up!
These 875EX Saxophones are really very good, and also a great price for well made, very good quality instruments. They also fit well in all genres of music, I play mine in Symphonic Wind Orchestra, Saxophone Ensembles, and Big Band.
