Pee-woo-weep
Clarkie, 18.03.2018
My wife has been desperate for one of these for years and when I saw that the price was perfect for a Christmas present I bought one right away.

It represents great value and the build quality is outstanding in it's price bracket. The fact that it comes with slide grease, a polishing cloth and some natty white gloves serves to underline the attention to detail Thomann gives to its products.

The slide was, initially, a little rough, but I expected that from a brand new tombone and was fine after a good lubing. The mouthpiece (a trumpet one) is also of good quality for the price bracket and fits nicely.

The only downside for me is that the vinyl covering on the (still sturdy) hard case has started to peel after only three months and it has never left the house. This is extremely minor and I think it's pure bad luck and I would've expected a gig bag in this price bracket.

If you fancy a teeny-weeny trombone you could do far, far worse than trying out this wee beauty.

Poor quality
Audun_, 22.08.2018
After just a couple months the plating on the inner slide started to come off, and the slide became harder to move, and making more scratch-noises. I didn't expect this bad quality, and i do not recommend it to others unless Thomann resolve this issue with the slide.
Apart from the slide, the trombone is fun to play, yet a little difficult (this might just be me, as a not that experienced tenor-trombone player). Definitely fun exept for the poor plating!

Edit:
I've contacted Thomann and they have resolved the problem. I give the service at Thomann at least 6 stars!

Fantastic Little Trombone
05.08.2015
The Thomann SL5 is a fantastic soprano trombone, ideal for trumpet players and trombonists alike. Positions are more-or-less where you'd expect them to be, and the instrument has a lovely sound.
The tuning bell is a little too short, and therefore it can be difficult to tune the instrument without it ending up a little sharp. But this is common in all soprano trombones at this price point.
The instrument is well made and the slide is slick. The lacquer is more heavy wearing than most instruments at this price, and I haven't had any issues with it rubbing off yet.
The mouthpiece included with the instrument isn't good at all, but it will take any standard trumpet mouthpiece, so find one that suits you. The case had a couple of rough edges, and I have cut my hand several times from sharp rivets on the handle.
This instrument is perfect as an extra little bit of fun for trumpet players or trombonists in jazz ensembles to add that little extra, and is also suitable for a range of more 'modern' trombone quartet repertoire.
Would highly recommend.

What do you expect for £90
14.03.2015
I think it is a good little trombone. My slide was ok but I took it to a friend who is an instrument technician, he polished the inside of the outer slide using brasso! The result was amazing it now runs like glass! I also had an adaptor made so I could use a Bach 3 for Eb horn , it now sounds more like a trombone but I will have to work on the high notes but goes up to F with no probs!

Good Demonstrator
Gorkloter, 05.06.2013
I find this a little difficult to play. It's nothing to do with quality etc. but the resistance is a bit too low for me. I find it easy to miss pitch notes but that can be solved by practice. A good slide lubricant is a must though. I use the same as I use on my tenor trombone slide and that works very well. The quality of the construction is actually very good. This is great to use as a demonstrator for use in schools and due to it's price isn't a problem if it should become damaged.
