Thomann MK III Handmade Tenor Sax
Natasha, 05.08.2013
I love this instrument. It looks beautiful and it plays really easily. the only issue I had with it is the finish which looked a bit rough and unfinished in parts. However with a bit of metal polish I was slowly and carefully able to improve this a bit ( had to be careful I didn't remove too much of the lacker) but the end result, after a few hours of work is a Sax that almost appears to be made of dark wood that plays really easily in both registers, has a beautiful, full tone and isn't too heavy to hold. I sold my Selmer to afford the Thomann MK II and I don't regret it. Worth every cent!

Good sound, little workmanship

I play the MK III with a Lebayle 7 * Metal Jazz and a Vandoren ZZ 2 or 2.5 and can play wonderfully warm as well as crazy. The speech at the bottom is a bit more difficult than at the top but generally quite ok. As already read in other reports, the mechanics are quite tightly sprung. I can not get used to it even after half a year, so I have to take more breaks and that's no good for me.
When I held the instrument for the first time in my hands, I was enthusiastic about optics. Unfortunately, the beautiful dark patina is lost to my clothes and hands. After playing the shirt must be in the laundry and the black hands must be washed thoroughly. According to Thomann this is normal, because the instrument is not painted - hmm, then you should perhaps include this in the product description.

All in all, the MKIII is a useful second instrument, if you can recover your fingers in between with another instrument.
Although the processing defects are not nice, you can accept them at the price.
As an entry-level instrument, I personally would not recommend the MKIII, because if you want to change in the course of the career on a higher-quality model, you have to live with a very poor resale value.
