Good sound, but disappointing build quality
I bought this unit because I had heard many great things about it. I previously owned the TC Helicon Play Acoustic, which I was very satisfied with, but I wanted something with more features, more possibilities, and more footswitches on the unit itself so I could control everything easily without using extra pedals.
Sound-wise, I have no major complaints. The unit sounds good and it definitely offers a lot of options. The switches also worked fine, so functionally it did what it was supposed to do.
However, the overall build quality was disappointing. The unit itself simply does not feel very premium. The display, even after adjusting the contrast in the settings, still looks cheap and outdated. It is hard to explain, but it just never gave me confidence.
The biggest disappointment for me was the power supply. The cable feels extremely thin and flimsy, and honestly, I would not trust it to survive even a month of regular gigging. For a unit that is supposed to be used live, that is a serious issue.
In the end, I returned it. It has a lot of features and the sound is good, but the materials, display, and especially the power supply made the whole unit feel cheaper than expected. It is not really surprising to me that the price has dropped.
I replaced it with a Boss VE-8. It has fewer features, but it has all the important things I actually need, and the build quality is on a completely different level. It feels solid, reliable, and built like a tank. For my use, the Boss VE-8 is definitely the better choice and a keeper.
