If you care about your drums, you'll buy SKB cases for them, it really is that simple! I've just bought the tom case, but I've had an SKB cymbal case for about 10 years and done around 3000 shows and flown about many hundreds of thousands of miles in that time and even airlines can't harm these cases!! In fact after 10 years one of the clasps on the strap broke and I contacted SKB and they sent out two replacements, so their million mile guarantee is exactly what it says.

Meine Grundregel lautet:
Kein Instrument verlässt uneingepackt das Haus!
Mir sind meine Instrumente zu wichtig und zu wertvoll, um sie den Risiken eines unverpackten/ungeschützten Transportes auszusetzen.
Von Hüllen/Softcases halte ich nicht so viel. Besser als gar nix, aber sie halten keine Stöße ab.
Für den Eigentransport sind Formkoffer ideal. Ich benutze hierbei ausschließlich Koffer, die mindestens die Höhe der zu verpackenden Trommel haben (im Gegensatz zu „Teleskopkoffern“), da Belastungen nicht auf die Trommel, sondern in die Casewand abgeleitet werden.
Die SKB Cases sind für mich in Sachen Verarbeitung, Stabilität und Polsterung des Beste auf dem Markt. Das hat zwar seinen Preis, lohnt sich aber.
