Rather a Stomping Tom ... but only a badly processed ...

Mark aus A., 11.09.2010
It is quite puzzling to me why the ratings for the Stomping bass are so good.
Already during the first unpacking it is noticeable that the device is quite modest processed. The rubber pad (for the heel) is cut out quite loveless, the adhesive velcro strip already detaches itself from the pillow and also the wood of the case itself works processing technology rather "rustic" ...

But that would still be manageable, if sound and handling on the stage were okay - but they do not unfortunately:
As for the sound, I'm almost desperate - it sounds like I'm knocking on a yoghurt cup. Highs out, mids out, basses pure ... And it sounds as if you had the yoghurt cup wrapped in a towel. Maybe a bit to Standtom, but certainly not for bass drum. I had promised myself more.

In addition, movements on the cable are very unpleasant. So when guitar and stopbox cables run side by side and one times on the guitar cable plucks, this is punished with a loud and quite ugly rustling. Therefore, a noise gate in the desk is indispensable ... Best also a limiter, because every now and then stamped something too strong (I at least).

Well, and last but not least, the box wanders gaily across the stage - presumably because the rubber base has little ground contact because of the battery flap protruding too far. With Panzertape you can push this movement drive, but must that be?

I had expected much more in view of the price. For the money I can buy an SM58, put it in my guitar case and drauframpeln, the sound is even even worse! My copy goes back home on Monday. Too bad, because the basic idea is good.

Good idea with small nails

Sebi-rockt, 16.12.2009
I use the stompin 'bass in a duo or solo project, which is usually played with one or two guitars, to amplify the rhythm with some songs or to replace the typical "on the body gekloppe".

In principle, the Stompin 'Bass performs its function fairly well, however it is my second. The first one I had to exchange (which was not a problem with the Thomans as usual) because the jack or the pickup has sent quite brutal Knaxer on the signal path, which would have made the tweeters with louder operation with certainty. (Dot output during processing) Another problem is that the bass travels over the ground during a complete song. If, on the underside, a softer, rubber-like material was applied, this would probably not be so severe, but the wear of this material would certainly be greater. (Point deduction during operation) Heel attachment. (Point deduction for processing)

In other words, the woodworking is great, all rubbery parts should be replenished. Since there are no features apart from the storage bag, I'm also sparing at point allocation

Conclusion: The function is great and the sound really depends only on the mixer. Since the mixer is a usable sound is feasible, there's almost full score. At this price I find the Stompin 'Bass just acceptable, if it would be more cost-effective, I would be easier to overlook the smaller processing weaknesses.
