The passive Palmer PAN 01 is a really great DI-Box for its price point. I use it primarily for recording and practicing guitar and bass at home. I bought it in the first place due to the limited headroom of my interface, the Focusrite Saffire Pro 24. After a little time I also did some reamping which worked absolutely flawless.
Since the PAN 01 is a passive DI-Box, it reduces the signal's level when the impedance is being transformed. If the gain is way too high the -30dB switch helps reducing it to a proper level.
The original signal does not seem to be coloured, which might be the most important thing for most users.
On the upsides it also comes with an ground lift switch, it is well built and it comes with a 5 year warranty.
I use this Passive D.I for live vocals at the end of a guitar pedal chain so that when it's going back into the desk the sound man doesn't have to struggle with trying to compensate for the low volume of the mic going through guitar pedals alone and at the same time eliminating unwanted feedback. Apparently Mic's and guitars have different impedances.
Like I said I don't know much about about anything but I know that paired with a Shure A85F this does exactly what I needed it to do. Cut's out feedback and helps the sound man mix my live vocals within my performances.
It's a simple design, very light, maybe too light... suspiciously light actually. Could be a problem in the long run getting beaten up by tours but only time will tell.
