Versatile monitor controller

The Palmer Monicon L G2 is a monitor controller that features a passive volume control and a built-in headphone amplifier. In this second-generation model - or "G2" for short - Palmer has retained the proven design of the Monicon L while adding Bluetooth connectivity and a separately switchable subwoofer output. The volume control remains entirely passive, so the essential functions, including the volume knob as well as mono, dim, and mute, continue to operate even when the unit is switched off. Mobile devices can be connected wirelessly via Bluetooth, with audio playback supported through the high-resolution A2DP, aptX, and aptX HD codecs. Designed for larger monitoring setups, the Monicon L G2 provides comprehensive control, while the Monicon M G2 and S G2 are more compact alternatives for users who only require volume control and the essential monitoring functions.

Flexible signal source selection

The Palmer Monicon L G2 features a clear and straightforward layout, with the central volume control surrounded by the DIM, Mute, and Mono monitoring functions positioned below it. The input selection is located on the left, while the output selection and headphone amplifier controls sit to the right of the main volume control. Two analogue inputs are available: A balanced XLR/jack combo socket with a 20kOhm input impedance, and an unbalanced AUX input via RCA or 3.5mm mini jack with a 10kOhm input impedance. The AUX input and Bluetooth stream share a dedicated volume potentiometer, while the PFL switch determines the signal source sent to the headphones, allowing either the main speaker output signal or the AUX/Bluetooth signal to be monitored directly.

Even works without power

The Palmer Monicon L G2 can operate two pairs of speakers alongside a subwoofer, with five balanced XLR outputs providing the necessary connections and a 600-ohm output impedance. This makes it possible to compare two speaker systems directly in an A/B configuration, while the subwoofer can be used with either pair of speakers. The stereo tracking of the volume control remains consistent across the entire range, with no sudden level changes or noticeable shifts in the stereo image. Input and output switching, as well as the Mute, Dim, and Mono functions, operate without audible switching noise, helping to maintain a clean and uninterrupted monitoring signal. Since the volume control is passive, the essential level control and monitoring functions remain available even in the event of a power failure.

About Palmer

Palmer is one of seven brands belonging to Adam Hall GmbH from Neu-Anspach in Hessen, Germany, which was founded in 1975. Starting as a manufacturer of robust flight cases, Adam Hall GmbH has developed into a global manufacturer and distributor of event equipment. In addition to studio and PA equipment, the company also produces LED lighting systems, moving lights, cables, protective cable conduits, stands, and stage systems. The Palmer brand is known for marrying analogue circuitry with digital technology. In this way, new innovations are developed that meet the highest demands. The Palmer portfolio includes DI boxes, line isolators, speaker simulations, controllers, and studio monitors.

Convenience, quality, and safety

The Palmer Monicon L G2 is suitable for use in home studios, professional recording environments and video editing stations, where its compact housing fits easily on a desk and places practical volume control within comfortable reach of the listening position. Unlike digital volume control through a mixer or DAW, an external monitor controller provides direct and tactile access to the listening level via its large rotary knob, allowing adjustments to be made quickly and intuitively. Another benefit is its position in the analogue signal path after D/A conversion, meaning it operates independently of the computer and can help prevent uncontrolled signal spikes from reaching the speakers in the event of a technical fault or system crash. Overall, the Monicon L G2 provides a straightforward way to keep essential monitoring controls physically accessible while maintaining a clear separation from the computer-based audio system.

Kläre Empfehlung
Mr.T MG 08.04.2026
