Great sound and good looks

maduro_maio, 10.04.2016
This violin sounds great and has a very original and appealing design.
NS designs have been introducing less expensive series (NXT and WAV) but the CR remain the top of the range, with active electronics and solid maple body and neck.
The dual mode preamp allows you to choose between a thinner (supposedly more acoustic?...) sound, and a more full bodied one.
The Polar pickup system has two positions, one for playing with bow, the other for pizzicato. The pizzicato option is great, with the sound on the lower strings resembling that of a fretless bass.
The height of the strings can be adjusted and the tuning stability is remarkable.
While you can adjust the shoulder rest to your comfort, the chinrest is not adjustable.
It took me a while to get comfortable with the violin, it is a bit heavy, like most electric violins, but not too much. I don't find it suitable to play standard repertoire (it was not designed for that), but it is great for improvised music, rock/folk/jazz etc. Run it through some pedals and a nice amp and you are likely to get incredible results.

Unsurpassed sound

Martin717, 14.03.2010
The Ned Steinberger violin with an additional fifth C string amazed from the first note and put all the other E violins I played by myself in the shade.

Sound: The sound is extraordinarily organic for an electric violin and has a broad body tone through a certain amount of resonance space which it houses. The low notes of the C and G strings are very warm, wide and powerful, while the higher notes on A and E strings sound rather brilliant and precise.

The sound can be adjusted directly to the height and depth controllers located on the body. In addition, the pickup direction of the strings can be changed to three different modes via a switch so that the sound is optimized for classical, electric or plucked playing.

Processing: The processing of the sound body is very successful and also impresses visually through the use of genuine wood in combination with a very suitable lacquer. Interesting attachment of the strings "reverse"; The violin does not dislike the other violins with snails. Because of the additional fifth string, the scale is somewhat larger than that of normal four-string strings.

Play: The feeling for the shoulder / chin support unit develops after a few minutes, as well as the play feeling for the larger scale. There are no problems with the string transitions and the response of the CR5 is very good.

Conclusion: I can recommend this high-quality instrument to everyone and would not exchange it.
