Auf der Suche nach einer Cowbell für ein kleines Latin-Drumset, die nicht zu sehr nach Alm-Abtrieb klingen sollte, bin ich auf die Jam Bells von LP gestoßen. Dieses blau-rote Pärchen überrascht nicht nur mit einem wirklich innovativen Design, sondern auch mit seinem ungewöhnlichen, im Abstand einer Terz harmonisch aufeinander abgestimmten Klang. Die Klangfarbe würde ich - entgegen der Thomann-Beschreibung - allerdings nicht als „glockenartig“ bezeichnen, es erinnert mich eher an den typisch „hohlen“ Sound von Tempelblocks oder Klangfröschen mit dem bekannten kurzen Sustain.

Die blaue (höher gestimmte) Bell hat ohne Befestigungsteil eine Länge von 9 cm und eine Breite von knapp 10 cm. Inklusive Schraube kommt man auf eine maximale Länge von 17 cm. Die maximale Höhe in der Mitte der Öffnung beträgt 3 cm. Der Querschnitt ist flach rautenförmig, dadurch weisen Ober- und Unterseite der Bell in der Mitte eine Kante auf. Durch flaches Anschlagen dieser Kante mit dem Schaft des Drumsticks erzielt man einen klaren, durchsetzungsfähigen Sound. Die Verarbeitung ist in gewohnter LP-Qualität. Die Jam Bells haben jedenfalls ihren festen Platz bei mir gefunden und stellen nicht nur eine klangliche, sondern auch optische Bereicherung meines Sets dar.
