I love the sound and feel of the BTB basses. The humbucker pickups and variable mids give a growl and presence that a lot of other basses can't match. Harmonics pop out loud and clear. Mellow to aggressive, dubby to crispy, this bass is full of good tones. The low B is tight and focused, with solid fundamental and clear overtones. Overall, the construction is very good. The finish is a little bit thickly applied but looks good. I think the contrasting colors of the different woods looks great, and like much more expensive basses. There's lots of extra wire in the control cavity all folded up, so that could be tidier. The wiring won't matter though if you leave it stock. Since the pickups sound great and the electronics are quiet, there's nothing electronic that needs fixing, so most folks won't have any need to look in there. I added piezo pickups and a Fishman Power Chip to mine, so the extra wire lengths and sloppy routing made that a challenge. I didn't care for the plain steel F string, and I found that D'Addario makes a 0.025 wound XL that matches the tone and feel of the rest of the strings better. My biggest gripe is a high fret. I tap a lot, so I like the action really low. Set up my way, I've got a high fret that causes buzzing and false notes two frets flat of it. That tells me it's not way off, so it should be easily fixed. Still, I've paid less for better fretwork. After the minor tweaks and fixes to make it my own, I love it. When the fret is fixed, it'll be perfect. I've played 6-string basses for over 25 years, and this beast is a great challenge and a useful tool also. It's helped my 6-string playing too, because there's simply no playing this 7-string with mediocre technique. I've had to level up on correct technique, which has improved my playing overall. This bass is pretty awesome for the price. Highly recommended!
