A double cut with a powerful sound

Gibson SG Standard EB electric guitar

The Gibson SG Standard EB is the latest iteration of one of this legendary guitarmaker's most iconic models, combining a classic design with the powerful sound and comfortable playability that have made the instrument a favourite for decades. Beneath the high-gloss Ebony Black finish, a mahogany body paired with a mahogany neck produces a warm and assertive tonal foundation, while the 490 R and 490 T humbuckers shape its core sound into the distinctive voice that defines the SG. Reliable aluminium hardware, including a Tune-o-matic bridge and tailpiece, ensures stable performance, while Grover machine heads and a Graph Tech nut on the headstock keep the instrument effortlessly in tune. Completing the package, the SG Standard comes with a road-ready softshell case featuring exterior pockets.

Perfect playability

The combination of a mahogany body and set-in mahogany neck has long provided the foundation for the Gibson SG's powerful and assertive tone, and the SG Standard is no exception, benefiting fully from this classic construction. Its rounded neck profile is pleasantly slim, paired with a rosewood fingerboard and a characteristically narrow neck heel, offering exceptional comfort for extended playing. The 490-R and 490-T pickups with chrome covers deliver the iconic SG sound faithfully to any amplifier it's hooked up to; each pickup is equipped with individual volume and tone controls for precise tonal shaping. Complementing this setup, the aluminum bridge and tailpiece, along with Grover machine heads, ensure the instrument stays reliably in tune, while still allowing quick and accurate adjustments whenever needed.

Genuine SG made in the USA

The Gibson SG Standard combines the familiar strengths and advantages that define all of Gibson's legendary US-made SG guitars with an exceptionally attractive price point, delivering the iconic full and rich sound that's ready to rock in almost any genre. Its 490 pickups provide remarkable clarity and transparency, making them equally capable of handling dynamically distorted tones while offering a wide palette of expressive options in clean playing. The rosewood fingerboard, fitted with 22 cryogenically treated medium frets and elegant trapezoid inlays, ensures precise intonation and a comfortable playing experience across the entire neck.

About Gibson

The Gibson Guitar Corporation was founded in 1902 by Orville Gibson and has its headquarters in Nashville, USA. Gibson is world famous and is loved by many musicians for its cult-status instruments. Gibson was responsible for building the world’s first mass-produced electric guitar, the ES-150, in 1936. The “Les Paul”, one of the first solid-body electric guitars, followed in 1952 and remains hugely popular to this day, in great part thanks to the “humbucker” pickups installed from 1957 onwards. The range has expanded over the years to include such well-known guitar models as the SG, the Flying V, and the ES-335, as well as bass guitars and acoustic guitars including the Thunderbird bass and the Hummingbird dreadnought. Well-known artists such as Pete Townshend, Slash, Angus Young, Tony Iommi, B.B. King, Michael Patrick Kelly, and Nikki Sixx, swear by Gibson guitars.

Classic SG sounds for everything that rocks

Whether it's used in Blues, Rock, or something heavier, the Gibson SG Standard is a true thoroughbred workhorse, thanks to its classic mahogany construction and the dynamic power of the 490 pickups. When paired with a quality amplifier, it delivers the signature SG tones, ranging from warm, clean sounds and crunchy riffs to singing leads, all projected with strong sustain and ample headroom, ensuring that the guitar commands the audience's attention in any setting.

Awesome guitar

Wish it came with a hard case. Minor issue with the rhythm/lead knob bouncing out off treble to middle to easy. Plays perfect after ajusting the action as the factory setup was miles to high on the base side.

Looks nice, plays nice
P-bass 77 10.03.2025
As guitar tech I saw a couple of flaws in the workmanship at the transition from the binding to the neck wood and a slight edge between the nut base and the neck wood. The nut slot on the G string was a bit too high, but with the right tools it can be solved in 30 minutes. No big deal, but Gibson QC needs to do better. The guitar itself has a good sound, the tuners are excellent, it stays tune, after adjusting the truss rod, the action can be adjusted to 1.5 mm on the low E string. The frets are excellent, the fingerboard has a very nice dark color, especially after the application of lemon oil. The neck is one of the thinnest and most comfortable I've played. Gibson-branded electronics satisfy with quality, as do the bridge
and stop tail. The guitar is in the lower
USA price range, but it holds the price
well in case of eventual re-sale. Overall satisfied, It's a keeper.
