E is for expressive

The Expressive E Osmose 49 CE is the Controller Edition of the manufacturer's award-winning Osmose and features the same innovative keybed technology, delivering an exceptionally expressive playing experience across 61 keys. Unlike the integrated sound engine concept found in the Osmose range, the Osmose 61 CE is purpose-built for controlling software instruments and external sound sources. Thanks to support for MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE), the movement of each individual key can be captured independently, controlling any virtual instrument with genuine musicality. In addition to velocity, aftertouch, pitch bend and modulation, the keys also respond to expressive gestures such as pressure changes and even shaking movements. A large colour display provides quick access to all settings and performance parameters. Combined with the ctrl e software suite, the Osmose 49 CE gives musicians access to more than 900 ready-to-play presets and allows even sample-based virtual instruments to be performed with remarkable expressiveness.

Perform in detail

The Expressive E Osmose 49 CE gives producers new possibilities to shape their sounds – thanks to MIDI Polyphonic Expression (MPE). But rather than merely applying these expressive changes across the entire keyboard, MPE allows them to be transmitted independently for each note. Within a chord, for example, players can bend or modulate individual notes, while leaving the remaining notes unaffected. A total of seven independent expressive parameters can be recorded and used with compatible instruments and productions; this enables musical phrases to capture the nuances of a real acoustic instrument, allowing performers to really bring their playing to life, far beyond the capabilities of conventional MIDI keyboards. Despite its advanced functionality, the playing experience remains immediate and intuitive, with all expressive control taking place directly on the keyboard itself.

Versatile sound design

The Expressive E Osmose 49 CE is designed for musicians who want to add greater expression and dynamics to their library of virtual instruments. Alongside an MPE-compatible arpeggiator, the ctrl e software provides access to more than 900 presets specifically tailored to the expressive capabilities of the Osmose keybed. Each preset includes eight pre-configured macros that can be controlled directly through ctrl e, providing quick access to the most important sound-shaping parameters. The clearly structured user interface makes it easy to browse the extensive sound library, which includes a wide range of acoustic instruments, synthesizers, and hybrid sonic textures. From physical modelling and virtual analogue synthesis to wavetable sounds, the library offers a broad spectrum of genres, characteristics, and creative possibilities.

About Expressive E

Expressive E is an innovative French company specialising in the development of cutting-edge interfaces that allow musicians to express their creativity to the fullest. The brand, whose mission statement is to enable a more intuitive, dynamic, and emotional interaction between humans and machines, first made its name with the Touché Controller, which allows users to control hardware and software-based synthesizers via hand gestures and is now accompanied by Expressive E’s proprietary Lié software as well as a whole palette of plugins with physical modelling and an ever-expanding selection of sound sets, some of which are also available free of charge. Expressive E brings together musicians, developers, and designers in a creative team with one common goal: To re-imagine musical expression for the digital age. Users can therefore (unsurprisingly) expect many more products from Expressive E in the future that continue to open up new creative possibilities beyond those offered by conventional interfaces.

Integrate into any setup

The rear-panel connections of the Expressive E Osmose 49 CE allow seamless integration into modern hardware and software environments. MIDI Out can be used to control synthesizers, sound modules, and other external audio sources, while the USB-C connection links the controller to computers and compatible music software. In addition to MPE support, the Osmose 16 CE offers comprehensive DAW control features, including transport controls, track and device navigation, mixer control, and automatic DAW detection: Supported platforms include Ableton Live, Cubase, Bitwig Studio and Logic Pro. Power is supplied via USB-C Power Delivery, and connections for two pedals are provided, allowing functions such as sustain and expression to be incorporated directly into a performance. Manufactured by Expressive E in Poland, the Osmose 61 CE combines European build quality with a modern design that features a white aluminium top panel and a black metal frame.
