The CME U6 MIDI Pro is a fully-featured MIDI interface with three inputs and three outputs for connecting MIDI hardware to computers, smartphones, and tablets. It combines router, filter, and mapper functions in one, giving electronic musicians of all kinds unparalleled flexibility in how they control their instruments. Via the USB port, up to 48 channels can be transmitted with virtually zero latency, and its 32-bit processor delivers four times the transmission speed of conventional MIDI devices. There's also a built-in octocoupler to ensure the seamless integration of all instruments, for secure and error-free MIDI input. The proprietary UxMIDI software (for Windows and Mac) enables users to almost effortlessly configure MIDI splits, merge MIDI data, and filter MIDI messages.
On the front of the device are the three MIDI inputs for receiving MIDI data from any connected hardware devices: On the rear, similarly, are the three MIDI outputs for sending MIDI data to instruments and the like. Each input and output channel has an LED on the interface for visual feedback: Depending on which channel is transmitting MIDI data, the LEDs flash. Alongside the multifunction button on the side is a USB-C port, which can be used for data transfer to a computer or as a power supply in standalone mode. In addition to macOS and Windows, the U6MIDI Pro also supports Linux and Chromebooks.
The CME U6MIDI Pro is ideal for musicians who want to combine their hardware synths, samplers and keyboards in a complex setup, playing them via MIDI while also receiving and transmitting their MIDI data. Thanks to its flexible USB-C power supply, the CME U6MIDI Pro can be used in a wide range of scenarios: In addition to mains power (cable not included), it can also be run off a USB power bank, allowing this MIDI interface to be used on the fly in mobile setups.
CME is a Singapore-based innovator and an executive board member of the MIDI Association, developing smart MIDI tools shaped by community feedback. Focused on seamless workflows, the company creates both wireless and wired solutions for modern music makers. With its WIDI Bluetooth MIDI technology and iWA wireless audio initiatives, CME continues to expand what is possible in the hybrid world of audio and MIDI. Its tools — from wireless MIDI interfaces to smart USB solutions — are designed to operate invisibly in the background, allowing musicians to remain fully in their creative flow.
The free UxMIDI Tools software suite for macOS and Windows can be downloaded from the manufacturer's website (requiring macOS X or Windows 7 in 64-bit). In the app's MIDI Router Settings, the signal flow of MIDI commands can be configured, while the MIDI Mapper can be used to customise the rules that determine how the CME U6MIDI Pro converts input into output. In the MIDI Filter Settings, specific MIDI commands can be filtered out of the data stream so they don't reach the hardware currently in use: This feature has primarily been designed to prevent older devices in particular from responding incorrectly. The software also manages firmware updates to keep the device up to date.
