Believe the Hype

08.01.2017
If you are like me you probably only started hearing about Celestion Creambacks when you were on the cusp of buying the Marshall DSL40c but were unsure if it was worth the buy. Scroll through any review page of the amp and I will guarantee ya within the first 10 reviews someone will have mentioned swapping out the stock for a Creamback to give it the edge it needs and get rid of some of its fizziness. Fortunately I'm not very original and like many others I followed that advice and haven't looked back since.

The main difference between the stock 70/80 and the Creamback seems to be definition from what I can tell. While the stock speaker produced a decent sound, the Creamback is definitely sharper, and clearer. It has more Middle which shapes the guitar sound a lot better. Listening back to before and after recordings I made (amp settings untouched), single note arpeggios are definitely a lot more defined and audible compared to that of the stock. Honestly I couldn't put the guitar down for 3 hours after the swap because the sound I was getting was just on another scale. For many though the difference may be one of those you only get from playing and not necessarily listening so you may have to try it for yourself to see. Either way I',m happy I made the swap

A real G12H!

Lefty Blues, 20.06.2014
I already have a pair of Celestion G12H 55Hz Heritage in a Marshall JVM205C and a pair of G12H 75H Heritage in a Marshall 2266 Vintage Modern Combo. These G12H-75 Creambacks are used as a pair in a JVM212 box.

Like all G12H (and actually all speakers), they need a little time to just sound super. They sound very good in bedroom volume, but not as great as the Heritage variants, but then live up to every decibel. They offer a decent bass fundament, just the right clean centers for well-groomed British crunch and beautifully transparent heights that never get too harsh (unlike the G12H Anniversary I've had).

I use it on the one hand as an extension for the JVM205C, where they are hardly distinguishable in the interaction of the G12H 55Hz. I also use it as a box for a Marble DCP100-Top, a hand-wired 6L6 Amp with 100 Watts, which on the other hand offers a beautiful Blackface-Clean, but on the other hand also a mix of Super Reverb and JCM800 in the crunch area. In the clean area they sound wonderfully warm, transparent and three-dimensional, in the crunch they press without end without too much to compress. They also work well with overdrive and distortion pedals.

But: With the case size should be rather restrained. In a TT British Vertical 212 Cab (birch multiplex and roughly the same volume as the Marshall 1936), I personally get the heights a bit shrill and the bass a bit too bulky. In this box I like the G12M-65 Creamback in the area of ??Classic Rock much better. For metal freaks, however, this might sound great on the other hand.

Conclusion: a super loudspeaker (in particular for not too large-volume boxes), which combines the best qualities of the two G12H Heritage models with 55Hz and 75Hz in one speaker at a higher load capacity and a significantly lower price despite the production in England. In addition, it can withstand classic Marshall EL34 amps as well as Fender-typical 6L6 amps. A true all-rounder with the finest sound quality!
