Precise sound machine
Eibensang, 24.01.2019
What makes the value of this pedal, which is almost twice as expensive as its predecessor structurally identical? On the one hand, the sound: The selectable in Waza 2 Custom mode sounds actually a lot livelier, punchier and warmer than the standard mode (which correspond to the old device, but in addition has been improved once again: what I can not judge). On the other hand, the absence of any disturbing trappings! While my other distorsions (Ibanez Tubescreamer and TC Electronic Fangs Metal Distortion) definitely have to be tamed by Noise Gates, the Boss MT-2W works quietly and quietly closes during game breaks: no rushing, no splashing or crackling, humming or whatever three gifts. Ideal for mobile use (where I can not lug around and carry equipment with me as absolutely necessary)!

However, the device requires a certain amount of training - or at least exact sound ideas. Blind fumbling at the eight knobs (two of them only fummelig graspable via double axis) easily leads to crappy or otherwise useless results. You could also say that the bandwidth of the tunable - especially in the parametrically adjustable mids (a potentiometer for the frequency, one for lowering or raising) - has come a long way too far. Definitely one-third of the standard would have been enough to allow for rich sound variations that are still within a certain sweet spot. In my opinion, the best sounds bring the device with restrained mid-screwing between a maximum of 10 and 2 o'clock positions, more likely between 11 and 1, so close to the neutral center position of the 12 o'clock position! Also, bass and treble have more control path than they need, which is a little easier to get a grip on than the parametric mids. But what sounds good, if you know what you want and what you do!

Speaking of grip and grip: Due to the tiny double buttons, the exact adjustment sometimes degenerates into felt microcosmic fiddling. Even minimal turning of the pots leads to sometimes drastic sound changes. For a pure ground pedal I would be too annoying, especially since I can not see clearly enough from my two meters of sight (and my old eyes) the regulator positions. But I need the device mainly for mobile studio recordings - here enjoys the stable processing as well as the pleasant rotational resistance of the controller, which retain their attitude, as long as you do not turn it around specifically. (There are some controls that can get out of focus if you accidentally brush them off, for example, while adjusting a knob next to them - the MT-2W boss is definitely of a higher quality!)

The device offers noiseless Zerre up to the highest hi Gain climes, but is not limited to such: With less distortion is still a lot of rich rock, only gentler crunch will not succeed then (for which there are definitely enough other pedals).
Even with a quiet setting, it sounds dense and punchy - and always precise. Stop screwing around - all the better as a special tool for very specific sound shaping in rock and heavy metal operations, from sawtooth solo to shredder thunderstorms to drone walls - always full board: just the way you want it to be.
Not discouraged cheap - but worth it for what it offers.
