All voice effects in one pedal. From Peter Frampton to Roger Trutman kinda. A bit expensive but nice to have in your pedal arsenal!

Expensive toys, fun and surprise

rekla, 19.06.2016
I had the boss VO-1 in the first send, because I was interested in the talk box effect. But also the vocoder effect made me curious, since I have so far no experience with the sound and mode of such devices could make.

In summary, we can say:
The vocoder effect works very well and is synonymous sound a positive surprise. It 's really fun to play around at home. On the other hand, the range of applications is limited for me. I have a few pieces of our set a few places rausgesucht, where I can use it as a surprise effect. Less is here, but when he comes, he is an eye-catcher and listener.

The use of the Talkbox is somewhat more habituation. You have to rumble and practice something with the sounds to get a sound. To the original with the hose is not enough, so 1 star trigger in the sound. Also, you have to take a disciplined breathing technique, otherwise you can easily escape the air, or it becomes even dizzy. Still a nice side feature that can be used.

On Stage, I have solved the microphone connection of the VO-1 with the K & M 23550 microphone supplementary splint. So I have two mics before the nose, one for the singing, the other in the VO-1.

We would already be at the last, unfortunately a bit negatively affected point. Starting from a certain stage volume or at small locations, the micro of the VO-1 intercepts the ambient noise more or less loudly and returns it via the effect that has just been set. This can make the effect unusable in certain live situations. Here a controllable noise gate would have been useful. The microphone adjustment switch is not enough for me. I use as a preventive measure a microphone with Superniere (Shure Beta 57A). This does not quite fix the problem.

Conclusion:
An expensive toy that makes fun and surprise the audience and bandmates. Who has the money over and is ready for a few Vocoder announcements in the evening and a pseudo-talkbox solo satte 249.- EUR - which should strike. I've done it and have fun.
