Uncompromising performance
The Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core is a 19" rackmount 26×32 audio interface combining eight discrete microphone preamps, extensive analogue and digital I/O, onboard real-time DSP/FPGA effects processing, a flexible routing matrix, and comprehensive word clock connectivity. Two of its eight microphone/line preamps feature switchable Hi-Z sensitivity for connecting electric stringed instruments. On the output side, there are eight line outputs, a dedicated stereo monitor output, and four independent headphone outputs. Coaxial S/PDIF inputs and outputs are included alongside ADAT connectivity for up to 16 channels of additional I/O. A dedicated reamping output is also provided. Over USB-C, the interface can transfer 24 channels in each direction at sample rates of up to 192kHz. Completing the package, the Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core provides fully programmable routing and near-zero-latency monitoring with effects processed by its internal DSP and FPGA architecture.
Eight microphone preamps
At the heart of the Antelope Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core are its eight discrete microphone preamps, based on Antelope's transparent circuit design and built around six transistors each. Compared with the preamps found in the Discrete 4 and 8 Pro Synergy Core models, the maximum gain has been increased to 75dB, providing ample headroom even for low-output dynamic and ribbon microphones. The converter section is equally impressive: The AD/DA converters offer a dynamic range of up to 130dB and are clocked using the company's proprietary 64-bit Acoustically Focused Clocking technology, which is designed to minimise jitter and maintain precise timing throughout the conversion process. At the same time, the system can be synchronised externally via word clock and, thanks to three word clock outputs, can also serve as a clock distribution hub itself.

With eight microphone preamps and extensive analogue and digital connectivity, Antelope's Discrete 8 Oryx is particularly well equipped for multitrack studio and location recording, from full-band studio sessions and rehearsals to live performances recorded in churches, clubs, pubs, and other venues. A footswitch input provides direct control over talkback and dim functions in these situations. Another major advantage is the package of 37 effects, all of which are processed directly by the interface's internal processors, providing near-zero-latency operation without placing additional load on the host computer. These Synergy Core effects can be used for monitoring, recording, and mixing on up to 16 tracks simultaneously, and range from Vari-Mu compressors to preamp emulations. Two dedicated DSPs and an FPGA chip handle the processing, while additional effects can be added to the collection as paid upgrades.
About Antelope Audio
Antelope Audio is a manufacturer of professional audio equipment that was founded by developer Igor Levin, who invented the famous AardSync clock generator with which his then-company Aardvark made waves in the world of audio engineering at the end of the 20th century. In 2005, Igor Levin went – as he himself put it – back to his roots and continued to develop the AardSync concept. Virtual patchbay routing
The Antelope Audio Discrete 8 Oryx Synergy Core's comprehensive virtual patchbay provides full control over signal routing, allowing any source to be assigned to any analogue or digital output. Independent monitor mixes can also be created for the main monitor output and each of the four headphone outputs. Routing can be configured conveniently from any computer, and can even be managed from multiple computers connected to the same network. Because routing, level settings, and mixer configurations can all be stored as presets, switching between different workflows is quick and straightforward. One noteworthy addition is the enhanced headphone section. The outputs now feature a Crossfeed function (X-Feed), designed to approximate the stereo presentation of loudspeaker monitoring. In addition, there are headphone-linearisation profiles for a range of popular studio headphones, along with a dedicated equaliser for further refinement.
