I fixed this by flipping the whole thing backwards and using it without the upper tier. Maybe I will try to modify it to install the upper tier flipped to the other side.

I wanted a solid 2-tier keyboard stand for my home studio that would be able to hold heavy keyboards, that would provide a solid platform , and that would be adjustable for a range of sizes, heights.
