ok for the price.

If you can deliver a good and strong line signal, this MA 205 will deliver "the goods" and do it well.
The mic preamp is dissapointing, bass'y and quiet.
I couldn't use this at a gig, but maybe as a monitor.
It is ok for leveling up my mixing desk at home & better than most, this size and price for overall performance.
I use it mostly for ballancing up my sound before leaving home for a gig, its natural sound is good and loud enough to get a real sound from.
Its a pity the mains wire is permanently attached, and theres no carrying handle. I could have made much more use of it if it had these features.
Usually good and reliable "forever", thomann music gear is worth every penny.
MONTHS LATER.
I have since purchassed another of these and carefully manufactured a 35mm speaker stand bracket to support 2 of these, to use with a quality "solo" analogue mixing desk. I can now use the stereo effects through the 2 MA205's, sounding quite impressive with a "doubling" sound effect. Outside bars, the stereo actually carries well, but indoors, the usual "people chatter" suppresses the stereo sound and it is wasted.
Music is far more sellect these days, people want quality, not loudness. My small MA205 system seems to have scored well.

Make a nice compact foldback speaker
Anonymous 23.12.2015
Purchased several of these to use as on stage foldback for a Church. We were having problems as the room we use was very reverberant, so wanted to b able to lower the level of on stage sound. By having more smaller speakers, closer to the musicians we were able to achieve this. For the cost, they are perfect for what we required.

They mount well on either short or tall mic stands and can be angled to point at your ears nicely. Nice choice of inputs (XLR, Jack, RCA), and able to daisy chain them. Volume control on the back so individual can change the overall level of their mix, but not too obvious so as to have people constantly tinkering with them. As they are quite compact, they are not obtrusive on the stage.

They are quite heavy, so make sure the stand you put them on, if doing this, is not too flimsy, and that you make sure you do all the adjusters on the stand up tight, or you may find the speaker moving!

Overall, for what we wanted to achieve, these have done the job really well, and value wise are perfect. The quality of the product, and the quality of the sound from them is ideal for our situation.

mini-monitors
John562 22.05.2013
these are the answer to a prayer, especially for the older working band. The weight and portability are amazing,I carry mine in the passenger footwell of my car.as to performance, they well outperform our old 1x12'' wedges...the drummer uses a cymbal stand and gets his within 500mm.of his ears. I have a friend who has had a pair for well over a year and he is also very happy. We have about 100 years playing experience between us...we can't both be wrong!!

Amazed
Anonymous 23.04.2015
Bought this as, being a keyboard player Im often at the back of the stage, and standard wedge monitors are blocked by my keyboards. This little beauty has a mounting bracket that allows you to mount it on a mic stand, so now the monitor is at ear height, and its small enough not to be obstructive!

Ive only given it 4 stars for sound as it has only got small speakers, but sound quality isnt what this is about, it so I can now for the first time actually hear what Im, and the band is playing.

The Web page says you need an adaptor to mount onto the Mic stand- but that is only true if you have a stand with the smaller 3/8" thread, but mine didnt

Not great for use with a band
John9556 30.09.2014
These are well made chunky little cabinets but I found that fitting them so a stand was a bit awkward and then transporting them difficult because of the bits of stand sticking out. I ended up sawing of bit of the bracket in order to get a good fitting

They would probably be good for gentle jazz etc but in my case they just could not get over the sound of the band.

Versatile little boxes
Bob A. 21.01.2014
Very handy active boxes. Useful range of inputs. The supplied multi-angle mounting is versatile, but not all that secure - I've fixed a socket so I can pole mount when I need to. But the sound is good, they are loud and clean. Very useful for near-field monitors; can even do a simple monitor on a stand for drums.

Box MA295

Found the sound quality very good and worked well as a wall mounted monitor - not so god as a free-standing or pole mounted unit due to complicated fixing system and instability. No carrying handle. Sold them to a studio in the end and went for TC Helicon (discontuinued) close field stage monitors.

Great monitors
Flat Boy Dim 16.12.2016
I love these monitors, one of my best investments, I have 4 of them. I didn't expect much from these due to size and price, but had them about 5 years and still working well.
The mountings were a disappointment, I have had my own design quick release angle brackets made which I mount onto sturdy cymbal stands and are now very stable, mounting on microphone stands was not working well for me, they didn't feel very secure.
I would prefer if they had a separate mains lead as transporting them would be a lot easier.
Sound wise they don't give a lot of very highs or very lows but that is fine for monitoring and is good in terms of feedback
