Fun little instrument

If you're paying less than 20e for any brass instrument, you can't expect too much for it. But with the right expectations, this is a great little instrument!

I bought the bugle for 3 reasons: I've always wanted one to play around with, for decoration, and for small fanfares in occasions where I don't want to bring a trumpet with me. At this price point, I'm not too worried about possible dents if there is any alcohol involved, especially if a friend wants to test it out. I can also hand it to my friend's kids if they want to try out a brass instument.

The mouthpiecethat was delivered with the bugle is simply terrible. The sound of the bugle felt really off until I replaced it with a trumpet mouthpiece, which made the instrument much more usable! With a bit of practice with the proper mouthpiece, the instrument is good enough to be used for bugle calls!

Construction and material-wise the bugle feels really, really light. This is the only bugle I've ever tried, but still I hoped for it to be a bit more sturdy. There is nothing wrong with its appearance. There is a small loop to which I'm planning to add some kind of leash for hanging it from the wall.

Myönnetään ensimmäisenä etten ole puhallinsoittaja. Trumpetistikaverin mukaan ei mitenkään hääppöinen suukappale, mutta mitä tähän rahaan voi odottaa - itse en olisi osannut kritisoida. Pienellä harjoittelulla onnistun saamaan hallitusti kolme eri ääntä torvesta ulos, eli hassuttelufanfaarien soitteluun sopiva laite.

It is in a Cis tune, which makes it not so suitable for band playing, but as standalone signal horn it is loud and clear

This was a great find. I had been looking for a bugle for quite some time, but could not find anything within my price range. As I was mainly interested in having the horn as a decorative piece in my home, this model was a perfect choice: it looks great atop a mantelpiece/piano and is a lovely addition to any living area.

In terms of how this thing plays; it isn't superb. The mouthpiece that comes with it is pretty much useless - I had to replace it with a normal trumpet mouthpiece which does not fit perfectly but does the trick. The response is OK but as far as the tuning goes, this horn is quite poor.

With this in mind, I would only suggest purchasing this bugle for decoration purposes, if you want something for good sound and playability, I wouls strongly suggest spending a bit more..
