I picked up the Thomann Effect Pedal Bag Medium looking for a cost-effective, padded case for transporting various small items.
On its own merits, it is a nice bag. The padding is substantial and provides excellent protection against bumps, and the construction with its robust zipper and handle feels solid. It’s clearly designed well for its intended purpose: safely carrying multiple effect pedals or a medium-sized multi-effects floorboard. The long outer pocket is also great for cables and power supplies.
However, I found that it is not the best bag for Koshi chimes.
Why it doesn't quite work for chimes:
Dimensions: The bag is wide and long (Internal dimensions are approximately 550 x 305 x 105 mm / 21.6" x 12" x 4.1"), but the Koshi chimes are cylindrical (around 6.3 cm / 2.5" diameter and 16.5 cm / 6.5" height).
No Dividers: The main compartment is one large, open space designed for one flat pedalboard. Since the Koshi chimes are delicate, placing all four chimes loose in the main compartment would allow them to roll around and potentially collide, which is exactly what we want to avoid when protecting them.
Wasted Space: Even with all four chimes inside, the bag is much too large, resulting in a lot of wasted space that makes the chimes rattle around unless they are heavily wrapped in bubble wrap or foam.
In summary: If you are an electric guitarist or bass player needing a durable, well-padded bag for your pedals, this is a fantastic and affordable choice. But if you need a specialized case for delicate cylindrical items like Koshi chimes, you would be better off looking for a dedicated bag with internal compartments or foam inserts designed to prevent movement
