a bit of a swizz
Ian L. 22.02.2016
hmmm, a bit of a con, this - and that's not thomann's fault, more a bit cheeky on the part of H&B.

it's a bucket mute, i love them, love the sound, love the feel of using them, love getting one out on a gig for a solo and turning the whole thing around. where the con lies is in the description of the mute, saying it's made to accommodate a larger 5" trumpet bell, since most trumpet bells are 4", 4 and a bit. i've just bought a new carol brass trumpet (i can't even begin to tell you how much i love it, the more i play it the more i love it, thank you thomann so much for all your hard work putting up with me and getting it for me) and it's got a 5" bell and my old mute just didn't fit, so i bought this one, specifically designed for a bigger bell....

when it arrived it's a wonder you couldn't hear me laughing: it's exactly the same as the old mute but the clips are pushed further apart so it goes on the bell easier - it's not a 5" mute, it's a 4" mute with wider clips. hmmm.

buyer beware, descriptions can be misleading. yes it fits a 5" bell which my older one didn't, but only because the clips are wider, i could've stretched the clips on my old one and saved £30.

like i said, this isn't thomann's fault, but it's a bit of a con from H&B. meanies.

Industry standard mute

There's a reason you see these everywhere. You can't beat them for this price tag. They blend well and don't add too much weight to the end of your bell. Sure there are some better sounding bucket mutes out there, but then you're going to be looking at splashing a bit more cash.

I use one of these pretty regularly in big bands and in shows, it's never let me down and 9 times out of 10 the rest of the section will have one of these too.

Good mute

The classic bucket mute, sounds great! Only slight annoyance is the clips, which makes it a touch tricky for quick mute changes, would recommend the Jo Ral one to get round this. This mute sounds great though, definitely should be in every trumpet players bag!

It's the standard bucket mute
Anonim 14.12.2015
It is the bucket mute that seems widely used in Big Bands. I think I've only ever seen bucket mute written in Big Band music, although I'm sure there are other styles of music where it's required.

A nice mute, gives that soft diffuse sound as required by a bucket mute, intonation quite good to.
