I usually use a Dunlop Jazz III, which is a small, pointy, and relatively thick jazz pick, but I was looking for something larger, thinner, and a lot more flexible for those very rare occasions when I want to play funk. I tried the Herco-branded Nylon ones, and they did sound excellent, but the quality was not the greatest (they all had injection molding marks all around the perimeter). These, however, are an entirely different story: the edges on all twelve of them are perfectly smooth. But how do they sound and feel, you ask? Well, the sound when they hit the string is similar to the regular Tortex picks, but, whereas regular Tortex picks are punched out of a sheet of plastic and, therefore, have a square edge, these Flex picks are injection molded and have a very smoothly rounded one. They are also very flexible, although, perhaps, a tiny bit stiffer than Nylon picks of equivalent gauge. And the word that best describes their texture is probably “eggshell-like”. That is to say, it is smooth but not glossy, kind of like a table-tennis ball. The grip is not as good as the Dunlop Gator Grip (the ones with the alligator), let alone picks with raised grip, but I found it sufficient for my gentle playing style. Lastly, the graphics are printed symmetrically on all twelve picks, and the colors are surprisingly vivid (if you also care about such things). All in all, they are very high quality, and provided they hold up (which only time will tell), I will buy them again.
