This unit is absolutely amazing, and I say this after trying various models from Line 6, Hotone, Nux, Mooer, and others. I think Boss really nailed it with this one, as it allows complete freedom to create your own tones or use the ones already provided. Granted, the factory presets are about 50/50 usable, depending on your style. I play around 85% heavy metal, so there isn’t much that fits straight out of the box—but I don’t mind. You can easily make your own presets, and they sound incredible.
I know there are a lot of opinions out there, and some competitors (or rather, YouTube’s so-called “guitar tone gurus” :)) ) have been bashing Boss ever since the GX series was released—but they’re wrong. This unit is a powerhouse, packed with amazing effects and amps that really shine once you dive deep into it. I’m still discovering new things about it even though I’ve only had it for a week, but I can already tell it’s going to stay on my desk permanently.
The GX-10 is compact and aimed at players who don’t need a huge number of effects running simultaneously. The touchscreen is very responsive, and the whole unit is built like a tank. I didn’t purchase the Bluetooth adapter, but I don’t need it—I do all my tweaking through the Boss PC app. You can stream audio via USB or connect it to a mixer without any issues.
Don’t fall for the false misinformation you see online—Boss is the OG and will likely remain that way. The only other unit that came close was the Line 6 Pod GO or HX Stomp, but even those pale in comparison to the effects and sound quality of the Boss.
My biggest surprise has been the new X-Amps from the AIRD technology—they sound phenomenal. To keep it short: BUY IT. If you’re more of a lead player, go for the GX-100. If your budget allows, try the GT-1000 or GT-1000Core series. Don’t be tempted by competitors offering a million features at half the price—remember, there’s no such thing as a free lunch! You get what you pay for.
10/10 – Boss and Thomann!
