Ich hab diese Gitarre gekauft als Backup für meine originale Gibson SG Standard, die mittlerweile im Vintagealter ist, und die ich deshalb nicht mehr unbedingt auf jedem wilden Punk-Gig benutzen möchte. Da ich die SG-Form mag, und ich ESP schätze, bot sich die Viper an, zumal zu diesem Preis. Sie ist korrekt verarbeitet (wenn auch weniger gut als meine ESP LTD EC-50 von 2005, da hat sich wohl was geändert im Laufe der Zeit), die Features sind klassisch wie auf jeder SG, man findet sich sofort zurecht. Einstellbar ist sie auch problemlos. Einzig die Pickups fand ich ziemlich flach und schrill klingend, nicht sehr angenehm. Da ich aber sowieso vorhatte, sie gegen originale Seymour Duncans JB + '59 auszutauschen, die ich noch rumliegen hatte (die kamen aus einer Cort Z64 und klangen mir da zu dunkel), hat mich das nicht weiter gestört, und mit den Duncans klingt sie richtig gut. Nicht so wie die Original-SG (die andere Pickups hat und auch aus anderem Holz ist), aber auch sehr rockig, völlig amtlich für Bühne und Studio. Fazit: Eine sehr brauchbare bühnentaugliche Gitarre, bei der man als Fortgeschrittener am besten die Pickups tauschen sollte (für Anfänger kann man sie aber drinlassen). Dasselbe gilt aber auch für fast alle Gitarren in diesem Preissegment.
