Not suitable for beginners

This book has a lot of info on songwriting. Unfortunately all this info is in form of a list without any explanation why those principles work. I think beginner to intermediate musicians look for an introductory book in songwriting with a little bit of theory. For example what is a perfect cadence, how to resolve a phrase, why certain chord progressions work and others don't etc. The way this book is structured is very overwhelming for beginners, as it provides way too much info just by scratching the surface without a short explanation. I can't see how beginners can learn something from this book. The only practical use I see is for experienced songwriters who would like to have a list of the things they already know for quick reference.

Simple book (in a good way), lots of tips. Great examples from really nice bands and artists like Radiohead, RHCP, Nirvana, Smashing Pumpkins, U2, Coldplay, Mgmt, Lorde, Sia, Pink, The Weeknd, Pharell Williams etc. I think maybe guitar players will apply better this book. I'm satisfied reader, recommend to beginners and intermediate level songwriters.

Great book!

I just started writing songs on my guitar and thought this book might help. I looked at others online but this one seemed the least intimidating. So far so good, most of the lessons have been really easy to understand, and the couple that go more into music theory will help me down the line I?m sure.

Something else that made this one stand out is that the lessons all have example songs (cool ones too, not three blind mice lol) and tips too. I?ve tried them on my songs and they do work. Good bitesized guide for beginners like me and pretty worth the money.
