So Good I've Bought 10!

I'm a full-time drum teacher specialising in world percussion work shops and this Pearl BCH-10 is the perfect choice for my Brazilian Samba drum groups. Unlike other major brands I've tried, these bells don't rust, are very durable and hard to dent, have multiple distinct tones from the mouth, back and tail, have HUGE projection when played hard, but keep their warm tone even when played softly. They are also very close in pitch from bell to bell, presumably from consistent manufacturing processes, which makes them a great choice for performance groups. I now own 10 of these and am so so happy with them. After years of heavy use they keep their tone and integrity and are such expressionate instruments. They have quite pure, musical tones, so if you're looking for that drier, raspier, multi-tonal sound for that authentic cuban feel, then there are better options. But unlike a lot of 'rock' bells, these have absolutely no tinny top-notes or unwanted overtones, and really hold their own in large ensembles. The metal finish is super-smooth with no weld-lines (the first thing to go rusty on other bells!) and are pretty scratch-resistant. Where LP bells let me down, Pearl nailed it!

Eine Cow Bell die "bellt"

Eine große und schwere Cow Bell mit einem satten, tiefen Klang. Laut genug, dass sie sich auch gegen „aufgedrehte“ Gitarristen und wilde Drummer mühelos durchsetzt.
Ob man sie mit dem Beater anschlägt, oder mit dem Tambourin traktiert, die BCH-10 tut genau das, was man von einer guten Bell erwartet: sie „bellt“ richtig los, wenn man sie schlägt.

Da die BCH-10 wegen ihres Klangvolumens vermutlich oft laute Rockmusik begleitet, wurde sie von Pearl äußerst solide gearbeitet. Aus 2 mm Stahlblech gefertigt, von außen ohne sichtbare Nähte, macht sie wirklich einen „unkaputtbaren“ Eindruck. Allerdings zeigen sich bei fleißigem Gebrauch schnell Spuren im Hochglanz-Klarlack-Finish. Aber hej, einen Rockmusiker ohne Furchen im verlebten Gesicht nimmt man schließlich auch nicht ernst …

Ich liebe diese BCH-10. So sehr, dass ich gleich zwei davon habe.
Das mag ungewöhnlich erscheinen, da es sich hier doch um eine „Handheld“ Cow Bell handelt. Aber der Klang hat mich einfach so überzeugt, dass ich keine Kompromisse eingehen wollte, als ich noch eine Kuhglocke mit sattem Sound zur Montage an meinem Percussion-Set suchte. Allerdings musste ich mir dazu eine Halterung basteln, in der die BCh-10 fest und sicher sitzt, aber die Mühe hat sich gelohnt.

Apropos „Handheld“: für zarte Hände ist die BCH-10 eher nicht geeignet. Ihre Abmessungen sind genau wie ihr Gewicht nicht zu unterschätzen. Ihr Korpus startet mit 70 x 37 mm und mündet nach 20 cm Länge in eine beeindruckende, 157 x 55 mm große Öffnung.
Bei besagter Materialstärke von 2 mm wiegt die BCH-10 fast 1 Kilo. Das kann bei einem „durchgeschlagenem“ Rocksong von 5 Minuten ganz schön schwer werden.

Este cencerro lo compré para una charanga. Le damos bastante uso y la verdad es que suena como el primer día. Eso sí, le tuve que poner un poco de cinta para que no resonase tanto, pero aún y todo sigue sonando perfectamente. En la calle es un lujo contar con este instrumento.

Trop lourde pour moi...j'aimerais que Thomann soit plus explicite sur le poids et la taille des cloches, pas facile à voir sur l'écran!
