Gibraltar SC-GR-4L-C Ludwig Throw-Off

Ho acquistato la meccanica per il mio Black Beauty LB416T in sostituzione della P-85 originale.
Per montarla ho dovuto allargare di circa 2/10 di mm i fori sul fusto, altrimenti le viti facevano molta fatica ad entrare: non ci ho messo più di cinque minuti, unico punto negativo per il quale valuto 4/5 la fabbricazione.
Il resto dell'assemblaggio è stato facile ed immediato, il posizionamento semplice e senza problemi.
L'attacco e lo stacco della cordiera sono molto morbidi e senza movimenti bruschi.
La cordiera appoggia perfettamente sulla pelle risonante e la regolazione della tensione è molto più precisa e (finalmente...) stabile.
Assolutamente raccomandata!

I replaced the old and idiotic mechanism on a Ludwig Maple 14x6.5 from the seventies. This mechanism is definitely better than the Ludwig one, but it has two disadvantages:

1. There is no rubber between the throw-off and the shell, so the steel basically sits on the wood which is probably not ideal for the wood. I assume it will leave scratches on the shell in the long run.

2. The bottom part of the throw-off, which holds the straps/strings of the snare wires, sits on a weird swiveling axis. Maybe some drummers see this an advantage, but I think it's not good because it moves freely when you play or when your knee touches it, and that basically changes the position of the wires and the tension. I don't really understand the sense behind the decision to leave it loose.

All in all, it's an okay product, and I bought it because it's the only throw-off that has the right hole spacing for the old Ludwigs (apart from Trick throw-offs which are expensive and hard to find in Europe). If it wasn't for the hole spacing issue, I'd opt for a different one - probably a DW or a Pearl.
