DiMarzio The Black Angel DP 234

I bought both DP235 and DP234 to combine them as a dual source pickup for acoustic guitar. So, I'm going to review from a dual source pickups perspective.

Pros - convenience, practical, great sound.
The DP234 comes with the cable that can be connected directly to DP235 soundhole pickup. I find this feature convenient as you do not have to do much modification to the guitar. I am unsure if you could connect to other type of soundhole pickups, but if you can, it can be super convenient. It is a one-source output jack so, you should get a Y-cable Stero to dual mono cable to fully take advantage of this.

Cons - price, no preamp
The downside is both DiMarzio pickups can be pricey on a "package" perspective when compared to products such as K&K Trinity pickup system, which comes with a preamp. Unless you already have 2-channel preamp, DP235 & DP234 combo could be a little pricey - just because you have to source for another preamp.

Auf der Suche nach einem magnetischen Tonabnehmer habe ich mich für den DiMarzio DP 234 entschieden. Die Kaufgründe sind:

- passiv (kein lästiger Batteriewechsel und "verbauen" des Instruments)
- einstellbare Polschrauben (Anpassung der Lautstärke einzelner Saiten)
- Humbucker (kein Summen oder Grundrauschen)
- schlichte Optik (einige Modelle von anderen Herstellern sind mir zu auffallend)

Ich nutze den Pickup für Fingerstyle und Studio Recordings. Der Klang des Pickups ist typisch für seine Bauweise. Sehr erdig mit leichter Tendenz zum E-Gitarrensound, jedoch hält sich das sehr in Grenzen und gefällt mir ausgesprochen gut. Diese Klangeigenschaften sind charakteristisch für magnetische Pickups und bei diesem Modell für mich nicht zu aufdringlich, sondern gut gewählt. Der Klang ähnelt sehr dem Sunrise Pickup, jedoch ist er etwas klarer und somit auch kühler im Klang. Perkussive Elemente, die vom Spieler am Korpus der Gitarre erzeugt werden, nimmt der Tonabnehmer nicht mit ab. Somit muss ein Mikrofon oder weitere Tonabnehmer in der Gitarre verbaut werden, um diese zu verstärken. Das sollte einem bei diesem Modell bewusst sein. Andere Hersteller bieten Hybridlösungen mit eingebauten Mikrofon und Aufnahme der Deckenschwingungen. Diese sind aber alle aktiv - sprich mit Knopfzelle oder 9V Block ausgestattet - und für mich nicht in Frage gekommen.

Abzug gibt es allerdings bei der Verarbeitung, da die Polschrauben etwas angelaufen waren. Mit Polierpaste konnte ich die gewünschte Optik erzielen und bin nun zufrieden.

Technisch und vom Klang bin ich überzeugt und kann den DiMarzio DP 234 echt empfehlen. Für meine Kriterien habe ich den richtigen Pickup gefunden!

Well built and easy to attach. The cable input is reachable without the need to loosen the strings or remove the pickup, which is ideal for those who do not want to permanently install the pickup and drill the guitar. After playing, cable can be easily detached while the pickup remains in position.

It has six pins that can be individually adjusted to fit many guitars (I even have it on the baritone acoustic guitar, which has a wider soundhole and larger space between the strings). There is also a phase switch, which is practical for those that do not have a DI-box or preamplifier.

The sound goes towards “electric” sound like many magnetic pickups but this one is one of the best I have tried. With a good preamplifier, this pickup gives a warm and very clean sound.
