Antelope Zen Tour Synergy Core

Registro musica principalmente pezzi propri con chitarre e bassi, usando un mac book pro del 2014. Con gran passione per la tecnica del suono e home recording che pratico da più di 15 anni, ho deciso di fare un salto di qualità acquistando una scheda audio di fascia alta e decidendomi per lo Zen Tour SG dell’ Antelope Audio, attratto per la sua portabilità e dalle possibilità di connessioni, soprattutto quella di avere ben 4 input Hi-z.

Inizio con il descrivere la qualità del suono dei suoi preamplificatori che sono la caratteristica principale ed il senso di ogni scheda audio. A mio avviso sono Meravigliosi! Il suono prodotto è chiaro, caldo e profondo trasmettendoti anche un senso di tridimensionalità. Ho praticamente riscoperto un nuovo potenziale che ho con la mia strumentazione ascoltando una nuova qualità sonora delle mie chitarre e bassi che non ero riuscito ad ascoltare prima.

Per quanto riguarda i Plug-in in DSP li ho trovati veramente belli. Non posso permettermi di paragonarli alle apparecchiature originali ma rispetto ai Plug-in nativi posso constatare che hanno decisamente una marcia in più. I Preamp virtuali e i Compressori colorano il suono in maniera veramente gradevole. Per le riproduzioni vintage degli EQ, quelli a bande fisse, se usati bene e con parsimonia possono migliorare ancora di più già l’ottimo suono acquisito in partenza. Gli ampli e cabinet per chitarra suonano veramente bene e realistici, sapevo che sono stati realizzati in collaborazione con la Software House italiana della Overloud specializzata in simulazioni di ampli e effetti per chitarre e bassi che conoscevo già.
Se avete un mac consiglio vivamente l’uso del software AFX2DAW che ti permette l’accesso diretto dei plug-in sul canale senza passare dal pannello di controllo velocizzando il tutto e rendendo la sessione di lavoro assolutamente più gradevole. Non incluso va pagato separatamente, ma facile che lo trovate in sconto come benvenuto di nuovi acquirenti.


Il pannello di controllo offre una possibilità di routing del segnale veramente ampia. Come letto più volte può spaventare un po' in principio ma in realtà è molto logico, detto in parole povere basta solo immaginarsi tutto come un normale processo di attaccare un Jack audio su un out che va a finire in un input. Consigliatissimo comunque vedere la serie di video sul pannello di controllo sul canale ufficiale Youtube dell’Antelope Audio. Stesso discorso vale per l’installazione della scheda su computer e dei plug-in. I video tutorial sono chiari ma soprattutto essenziali per avere un inizio assolutamente “Don’t Panic” come più volte citato simpaticamente nei video.

Ho avuto modo anche di contattare il supporto dell’ Antelope, per avere alcuni chiarimenti su alcune funzionalità che non mi erano chiare ed hanno reagito molto velocemente e con un linguaggio molto amichevole.

A volte si trovano in rete alcune recensioni inesatte sui prodotti Antelope, i quali possono disorientare. Io per esempio leggendole avevo il dubbio che queste schede funzionassero solo se collegate a Internet. Assolutamente falso! Solo per la prima installazione in assoluto è necessaria una connessione, dopo la scheda funziona normalmente anche senza essere necessariamente collegati a internet.


Consiglio assolutamente questa scheda audio, come scritto prima la qualità dei preamplificatori ne vale già il prezzo. Io ne sono assolutamente entusiasta.

È come avere uno studio in una scatola, cosa che vent’anni fa appariva come un sogno. Che dire… avessi vent’anni di meno;-)….

Una macchina da lavoro veramente eccezionale, una volta capito come funziona il routing e averci preso confidenza è veramente senza limiti.
I preamplificatori e tutte le funzionalità di modelling possono essere usate StandAlone e quindi puo' essere equiparato ad un sistema channel string (preamp+ comp + EQ ) ad 8 unità - (8 ingressi di linea oppure 4microfonici +4 di linea).
In aggiunta, io sono chitarrista e anche le simulazioni Ampli+Cassa sono veramente validi

I upgraded to the Zen Tour after my Audient gave up on me. I'm currently using the Zen Tour Synergy Core via Thunderbolt 3 on a Windows 10 laptop, replacing the Audient as the centerpiece of my studio.

It was hard to look for a replacement for my Audient iD44, because it was hard to find an interface that had a significant upgrade in sound while having the Audient's flexibility. I use it to record vocals, acoustic/electric guitar, bass, analog synths, and I also send a stereo signal to my outboard effects and record them. I stumbled across the Zen Tour, and decided to give it a chance, despite previous negative reviews about driver issues. After using it for a while, I'd say everything about the Zen Tour sounds pristine, definitely a class above my Audient iD44 in all aspects. All the inputs and outputs (including the reamp output) work fine and sound great.

Here's what I like:
- the control panel, being able to route anything to anything
- number of quality input/outputs bang-for-buck-wise
- it sounds amazing
- Antelope DSP effects sound great
- buying the device comes with a good amount of Antelope plugins (for me, at least. As of the time of writing, it seems like what plugins are included is quite seasonal)

and what I don't like:
- while the thunderbolt driver works fine in the DAW, requiring a 3rd party app like Voicemeeter to play Windows Audio could be a bit of a hassle
- AFX to DAW doesn't run very smoothly on Windows 10 as of the time of writing, although AFX2DAW for Windows is barely 2 months old, so I'll cut them some slack.
- There isn't an immediately visible DSP meter like UAD which allows me to see how much of Zen Tour's DSP I've used for running their plugins

That's about it. Although there are a few things that I don't like about it, overall, it's been a very positive experience using it for the past 1-2 months and for me, the benefits far outweigh the downsides.

Besides of being aesthetically pleasing, the compact desktop unit is also has a very solid build quality and feel to it.
Sound wise the interface is superb. From inputs to outputs everything is sounding amazing. Antelope clocking and AD/DA converters are marketed top tier and this interface delivers just that.
The AFX effects sound great and the interface has vast amount of processing power to run them.
Overall I'm very pleased with this interface. Sure there's things that could be improved or changed, but for now there's no clear flaws for me.

So summing it up. I'm using the Zen Tour on both Windows (via USB) and OSX (via TB3) systems.

Things I think could be better:
-More control over touchscreen, and custom metering layout view
-A little more coarse resolution rotary dial. This guy really wants to go around for things to happen.
-Control panel's AFX window isn't scalable.
-AFX resource meter.
-Auraverb or other reverb and delay as AFX effect.

Things I love about it.
-The physical appearance, the robust build quality and connectors, locking power cable (I use this in a live gig setup/scenario and you learn to appreciate such things)
-The amount of I/O and the different connector types in such a compact form. This is like swiss army knive. There's really no scenario that this thing couldn't handle. The versatility is outstanding and there definitely is a LOT of features for the price.
-The routing and (4) internal mixers. Once again, the versatility of the routing complimenting the amount of I/O. That's just a superior feature. And the four software mixers are an outstanding tool to be used for monitor mixes or subgroups when recording live.
-The sound. The superb quality, it's just so audible.
-The AFX effects and the processing power. Awesome sounding effects and the ability to run multiple instances in multiple tracks
-Hardware presets. Another useful tool in many scenarios.
