A pleasantly warm white light

The power and performance that the Varytec LED Studio 150 2900K brings to the stage are really something, especially for this price bracket. Its warm white light is bright and clearly defined, giving every theatre set a nice, inviting feeling (the unit itself is also unusually quiet). If, on the other hand, cool white daylight scenes are required, then the mechanically identical Varytec LED Studio 150 6000K will fit the bill perfectly. Both models are available in either black or white housings, which incidentally – and this isn't always the case with stage lights – are made of robust die-cast aluminium. The LED spotlight has a P-C lens for a clearly defined beam and a set of barndoors already included in the price. Another feature rarely found in this kind of spotlight are the rubber feet, which also make the Varytec LED Studio 150 suitable for use on the ground – alongside the more typical hanging mount. Its RDM functionality is also a notable feature, making setup easy.

Powerful, broad-beam lighting

The Varytec LED Studio 150 2900K uses no less than a 150W COB LED, with a fixed colour temperature of 2900K and a planar-convex lens. Its colour rendering index of CRI Ra >90 is also impressive, as it gives the objects it illuminates a perfectly natural appearance. With a beam angle of 40°, the spotlight can cover a broad section of the stage. It is operated either via the four menu buttons located under the red bar display or via DMX using one, two, or four channels, so that a fairly small lighting console is all that's needed. With a weight of just 2.9kg, the Varytec LED Studio 150 2900K is unlikely to cause any structural problems when it comes to mounting it on the hanging bracket supplied.

For small to medium stages

The P-C optics make this spotlight ideal for illuminating clearly defined areas on small to medium-sized theatre stages, while the broader beam angle can be used for larger settings, and the strobe function allows thunderstorm effects if required. Beginners can easily operate the spotlight directly on the housing itself – however, DMX integration is more likely to be the method of choice in a more comprehensive setup, where the Studio 150's ability to be operated with one to four channels makes itself most useful. Organisers of readings and other purely spoken-word performances can deactivate the fan via the menu buttons; this limits the spotlight's performance to 50W, but enables completely silent operation. And when it comes to colour temperature, the warm white is suitable as an all-rounder for most lighting scenarios.

About Varytec

Over the years, Thomann has greatly enriched its already extensive range of lighting products with its in-house brand Varytec. In addition to LED spotlights, theatre lighting, and moving lights, Varytec offers an arsenal of matching accessories. Tripods, cables, power distributors, and all kinds of other components are, like the lighting solutions themselves, manufactured by well-known names in the field. The firm's direct sales approach, which eliminates intermediate retailers, ensures that all of these products are nevertheless attractively priced. Varytec's range comprises well over 200 items, which will illuminate everything from home-streamer setups to photo studios, theatres, and concert halls.

A perfect touring companion

For any stage techs who want two LED Studio 150 2900K units to concentrate their lighting on specific parts of certain scenes, the Varytecs can be mounted in addition to any floodlights already in use. The Millenium LST-310 lighting rig bundle, with two stands that can each hold up to four spots, is ideal for touring, with the DMX signal supplied via control cables such as the pro snake TPD-3 10 FM. Imagine a setup where halogen spotlights were previously responsible for illuminating the entire stage; they could now be merged on two DMX channels and, with an inexpensive lighting console such as the compact Stairville DDC-6 DMX controller, there would still be four channels left to utilise all the possibilities of the new Varytecs.
