Nice MIDI panel socket
Kaiviti 30.12.2019
'Standard' size MIDI socket for fitting to a rack panel or any other panel for that matter. Test plugging this to male DIN plugs feels nice and solid, material itself feels pretty solid so seems like it will be a great alternative to the more common sort of oval DIN sockets. This will also look nicer mounted nesxt to XLR or other panel mounted connectors.

Get something else

I give it two stars because it is quite easy to solder.

If you can’t use midi over TRS get some other plug, the AliExpress ones are better, and I wish I was kidding. It is very flimsy with Rean cables, and I have never had a problem with those. I was vert surprised when I saw that it is 3D printed, good print though, but I don’t think that filament 3d printings works for this.

I am going to foregoe the standardized 5pin to 5 pin in favour of the rarer trs to 5 pin cables and install a trs d-format plug. There are good ones but kinda expensive.

I bought it because it was the only d format 5 pin MIDI (DIN) socket in Thomann. I have never had good experiences with Thomann branded products, the other Thomann brands range from fair to pretty solid (Millenium, Thon…)

I
Good MIDI Connector
I'mTheSoundGuy 23.10.2019
It's one of the few D-standard MIDI connectors, and it does it's job. Good soldering pins on the back and ok built quality. Used it in a rack panel to bring the midi connection from the back of an Avid Eleven Rack to the front for much easier connection.

Good MIDI connector
c-chavez 25.06.2023
This connector serves its purpose very well and is very inexpensive. Unfortunately you have to solder the back so that you can actually use it. I've soldered it to another cheap midi cable I had lying around, and use it in my band's rack. It's a great alternative to the more expensive MIDI connector that doesn't require any soldering, and serves the same purpose. If you are ok soldering, give it a try and save some eurs.
You can either solder the 5 wires, or just 3, since MIDI in general doesn't require them all (depending on the interface you will be connecting to).
