Not for home recording
I had high hopes for this microphone and when it arrived it looked and felt the part. Unfortunately when testing it out on my guitar amp I could hardly get any signal through with my UA 710 open all the way, just a lot of noise. Even with a Klark Teknik CM-1 booster the signal noise ratio was horrible. In a live situation on loud guitar amps you could probably get a better signal, but for home recording it is useless.

A bad sounding mic.
With the microphone you get a nice case and a shockmount, but the microphone itself just doesn't sound good, it's sluggish, not detailed in the slightest, it renders everything in the least flattering possible way, and it doesn't have any of the qualities you might desire from a ribbon microphone.
If you're on the cheap, the RB500 is a better choice in every possible sense.

Well...
? it's a cheap mic. And that's what you get: a cheap sounding ribbon mic. It just isn't as natural sounding as what you'd expect from a ribbon mic. But it's a great platform to start your mod's though.
