Simple idea – big impact

Canadian manufacturer Radial Engineering has built its reputation as a specialist in premium studio and live tools that deliver exceptional performance while remaining effortlessly unobtrusive. The Vocoloco embodies this philosophy, combining a high-quality microphone preamp with a built-in effect loop to patch in guitar pedals, making it remarkably easy to process microphone signals through a wide range of effects. Setting itself apart from similar devices, the Radial Engineering Vocoloco features an internal two-band EQ and tone control within the effects return, offering greater sonic flexibility and precision. True to the brand's tradition, it comes housed in a rugged steel housing with durable, high-quality controls that ensure reliability both on stage and in the studio.

Guitar effects on the mic

The Radial Engineering Vocoloco is an effortless way to apply anything typically considered to be a guitar effect to a microphone signal; it can be connected seamlessly between a mic and a PA or mixer, and then chained to a series made up of any floor pedals the artist might want to use. Its built-in preamp delivers up to 52dB of gain, complete with phantom power and a versatile two-band shelving EQ for precise tone shaping. The effects loop includes independent level controls for send and return, with the return path featuring a low-pass filter that smooths out harsh stompbox tones. A mix control lets users fine-tune the wet/dry balance, while one footswitch engages the effects in the signal chain and another either mutes the signal or bypasses the mix control to unleash the full effect. With XLR connectors for mic input and line output, jack sockets for the effects loop, and a ground lift switch to eliminate hum, the Vocoloco combines flexibility and simplicity in one compact unit.

About Radial Engineering

Founded in 1992, Radial Engineering is a Canadian company near Montreal that specialises in high-quality analogue audio tools. Renowned globally for their DI boxes, signal splitters, and analogue interface tools, the company expanded in 2014 following the acquisition of the legendary transformer manufacturer Jensen. Radial Engineering now produces dozens of audio products, employing over 100 staff members and operating an extensive global distribution network. Their tools are indispensable in live performances and studio productions, with their gear present in countless high-profile setups worldwide.

Perfect for stage and studio

The Vocoloco's main purpose is to provide a simple, seamless way to integrate effect pedals into a microphone signal path, allowing musicians off all kinds to enhance their sound without any hassle. With just a microphone (whether condenser or dynamic) and a selection of their favourite guitar pedals, artists can effortlessly add creative effects to their vocals or instruments – the Vocoloco is particularly effective used with woodwinds and brass, but of course it works with any amplified audio source. M
Robust unit, does exactly what it needs to
Megawatts 03.06.2019
Have had this for a while. Struggled a little with it being noisy, but recently figured out you need to run it at a healthy gain level - if the gain is too low on the unit, noise seems to be added. Have it running clean now, and it sounds fantastic.

EQ is great - very responsive. Low and High only, which is limiting, but it's so dynamic you can deal with that. The FX loop, which is the primary reason for buying it, is wonderful - I'm running a distortion, POG nano, delay and TC HOF2 - and the mix of sounds and quality is brilliant - most of the time it's just the reverb, and it's a new world in terms of sound quality and control compared to anything else I've ever used.

Only thing that still bugs me and that I haven't managed to work out is the level difference from the FX being on and off. Unless you overload the input and receive levels, when it starts being uncontrollable in terms of the FX volume, it's far louder without the FX loop on. You can of course just turn all your FX pedals off, but it doesn't sounds as good as when the FX loop is off. Minor glitch that is work-around-able and other than that, a brilliant unit.

K
Vocoloco gives you ultimate effects freedom
K.L.D. 23.05.2017
I was fed up with asking for certain effects on my vocals at sound check, only to find that the sound engineer would add more effects as they saw fit during the show and inhibiting the performance.
I played around with different vocal pedals but didn't really take to their features and felt they were overpriced with hardly any choice.
The Vocoloco allows you to use guitar pedals in a chain giving you a huge variety and choice. The pedal works as a preamp and stops the crackle and interference you'd usually get plugging straight into a guitar pedal as it changes the impedance.
The pedal is easy to use and allows you to be fully in control of the effects and is easy to turn on and off so you can sing without any effects and also a full mute button so you can quickly stop and sound going through the speakers should you have any problems with feedback etc.
I would definitely recommend this product to any singer wanting more control and more freedom with effects when on stage.

What a Wonderfull Tool!!
I use it all the time with my violin and Saxophone.

Violin: I use a Yamaha SV-250 electric violin and this preamp does a Wonderfull job!

Saxophone: Finally I can use my effects with my instrument! great sounds!!

pros: reliable, great sounding!!

cons: the "rare" power supply, can be fixed by using a cioks power supply or a Radial Tailbone Buffer.
