Mollenhauer TraumFl te T nor

Eric612, 24.05.2011
I have been practicing this TraumFlöte Tenor for only a few days. This is only a first impression.

The instrument is delivered in the half-moon pouch characteristic of the brand, but this is only the basic version in black blue cotton, which is mean for such an expensive instrument. The flute is very well finished, smooth pear without the slightest defect, a nice warm color. The aesthetic is curious, a sort of cross between a Renaissance flute and a middle instrument of the last century, with tinted parts cachou, and a pavilion all round. The key, flexible and well adjusted, participates in this stylistic bias.

The diameter of the instrument, quasi-cylindrical, is important and the holes much larger than those of the Baroque Denner of the same brand. These holes are relatively close, but the double hole of the d is aligned with those of the mid and the fa, which requires a hand position a little different from that customary. The flute is relatively light for its volume. The oiled pear tree is very smooth, and slippery if you have dry hands like me. In this case, it would be prudent to provide a small slip-resistant adhesive for the right thumb, or even a thumb retainer, although the low weight of the flute does not require it. It is probable that this must be resolved in practice. The balance is weight is correct.

The mouthpiece has a curved channel. The instrument speaks easily, requires little pressure but enough flow. The sound is soft, vibrant and really powerful in the bass, more veiled in the treble that easily exits to the one of the second register. To the extent that the flute is new and not "run-in", it is not possible for me to judge correctly extreme treble. The altered notes are correct and sound good. Due to the large diameter of the holes, it is important to place your fingers well. The attacks are frank, the sound easily adjustable and the instrument is agile
.
The relatively typical tone is less brilliant than that of the baroque flute. It lends itself to popular and modern music, even contemporary music, and adapts well to the play of vocal parts, such as baroque arias, or Irish ballads in a completely different genre. Not playing jazz, I can not judge its use in this style of music, and if the few videos consulted on the Web seemed convincing, they showed the version alto and not tenor.

Conclusion:
This flute is original in several ways, and of an interesting sonority. It makes it possible to approach without complex a different repertoire of the learned music. I bought it for this purpose, and also to "vary the pleasures." I am not disappointed, even if I find the price high. For a lower price, you will find here Baroque flutes of quality, Mollenhauer Denner or Moeck Rottenburgh for example. But they will not have the personality of the flute of Adriana Breukink, its creator. I suggest that you also consult the DREAMRECORDERS page of its site (in English).
