Product Review

I have tried just about every bass string on the market and find these to be well balanced and great for slap as well as fingerstyle playing.

The strings feel lovely on the fingers and give great punch on my Warwick Thumb 5NT and 4 String Corvette.

For very aggressive playing the super light gauge would not be ideal and I might concede that you possibly lose a small degree of sustain and overall volume compared to a heavier string.

They are of course available in heavier gauges so this ought not to be a large problem.

There may be a slight perceived loss of metallic punch when using these coated strings which may not suit metal players tastes but who knows!?

I currently use elixir strings on all my guitars from acoustics, electrics and basses.

I would not go back to anything else.

I hope this is of some help to those reading!

New design - new tone. Bad one!
DarjanX4L 19.02.2026
I see that all the reviews are 5 stars but every review is older than new edition of these strings.
I ordered two sets recently thinking that it will be good old Elixir sound that we all love. But, I was so wrong. First set that I tried felt good in hand and when played unpluged, dry bass sound, it was OK but something was off, I could not tell what.
On the first gig I got the answer. The sound was so muddy that PA guy could not deal with it. He had to cut all the mid frequences as much as he could and it was still muddy. All of the Elixirs zing and warmth and punch was no where to be found. It sounds like the hex core of the string is welded down with the round windings. Totaly unusable sound.

I rushed for the second set of strings to change ih as fast as I could… and it was the same story.

I ended up playend that gig only through my GK amp, no PA at all, because only like that I could get somewhat usable sound.
Now I dont know what to do… what to buy next.

Superb strings
VINK63 24.02.2019
In my opinion these strings are the best ever, soft and shiny, manageable and robust at the same time.
I tried them some time ago and since then they have been my favorites.
The best bass strings ever played.
PRO: brilliance, soft to the touch, excellent coating, superb.
AGAINST: price maybe too high, compared to other strings of the same quality, but they last longer than others, we must recognize it. So it's worth it
I highly recommend it
