Ich habe das Bare Knuckle Old Guard Humbucker Set in eine 1994 PRS McCarty eingebaut – als Ersatz für die originalen McCarty-Pickups, die mir deutlich zu bassig waren. Erschwerend kam hinzu, dass der Vorbesitzer die Pickups zudem „unkonventionell“ verdrahtet hatte. In dem Zuge habe ich auch Schalter und Klangregelung mit erneuert (im Nachhinein vermutlich nicht zwingend nötig) – das Ergebnis ist trotzdem eindeutig:

Insgesamt überzeugend: Handarbeit zu einem sehr günstigen Preis. Montage mit beiliegendem Material einfach und passgenau. Dazu kommt eine sehr gute Anleitung, die den Einbau erleichtert. Wichtig zu wissen: Die vieradrigen Pickups haben eine eigene Farbkodierung. Wer insbesondere PU-Splits sauber und korrekt umsetzen will, sollte die Belegung am besten mit den Schaltplänen auf der Seymour-Duncan-Homepage abgleichen – dann gibt es keine Überraschungen, und man landet direkt bei der gewünschten Split-Logik ( sind die Old Guards bei mir ein echter Fortschritt: sehr perkussiv, mit hervorragender Saitentrennung und straffen, kontrollierten Bässen – genau das, was der McCarty vorher etwas gefehlt hat. Der Single-Coil-Betrieb ist für mich besser als bei allen splitbaren Humbuckern, die ich bisher kannte. In der Mittelposition kommt das erstaunlich nah an eine Telecaster heran – spritzig, definiert und musikalisch, fast ganz ohne diesen typischen „Split-Kompromiss“.

Unterm Strich: Für den Preis eine uneingeschränkte Empfehlung und für meine McCarty eine klare Verbesserung. Ausprobieren.
