Premium MIDI controller

Arturia KeyLab 49 mk3 White USB MIDI keyboard

The Arturia KeyLab 49 Mk3 White is the third generation of Arturia's versatile MIDI controller, now enhanced with new features and a larger display for an even smoother workflow. Updates include a scale mode, an integrated arpeggiator, and a versatile chord mode, along with an improved user interface. The 49-key keybed has been completely reengineered for better key balance, weighting, and smoother hammer action. In addition to playing melodies, the 12 velocity-sensitive pads (organised across four banks) are ideal for triggering samples. With nine encoders and nine faders, the controller offers precise, hands-on control over all parameters, making it ideal for everything from shaping virtual instruments to managing DAW mixer settings – both in the studio and on stage.

Fully decked-out MIDI controller

For clear and intuitive operation, the Arturia KeyLab 49's control panel is divided into three main sections. On the far left are the pitch and modulation wheels, used for real-time control of pitch bends and modulation effects. Above them are buttons for adjusting transpose and octave settings. The 12 performance pads can be used to trigger samples, play chords, or send MIDI data, and they support polyphonic aftertouch for added expressive control. Dedicated controls allow for quick access to MIDI effects like chord mode, note hold, scale selection, and arpeggiation. Directly below is the transport section, offering hands-on control for playback and recording in a DAW. The display sits at the centre of the panel, and is paired with context-sensitive buttons and a main rotary encoder for navigating menus and settings. The section to right of the screen is dedicated to the encoders and faders that offer precise control over levels, parameters, panning, and other key adjustments.

Advanced DAW Control

The Arturia KeyLab 49 Mk3 White is built for producers who demand intuitive, hands-on control over their virtual instruments and DAW – both in the studio and on stage. The rear panel offers inputs for two pedals, supporting both expression and sustain functions. MIDI data can be transmitted and received via standard MIDI ports, and in addition to USB connectivity, the controller can be powered using an optional 12V power supply. Additionally, a comprehensive software bundle is included, providing everything needed to start producing right away; the package features Analog Lab Pro, Mini V, Augmented STRINGS, and Rev PLATE-140.

About Arturia

Arturia's success story began with software emulations of well-known analogue synthesizers such as the Moog Minimoog, Sequential Prophet-5, and Oberheim SEM. The popular software instruments included in the V Collection are still flagship products of the French developer today. Over time, Arturia has gradually expanded its range and now also offers a host of hardware devices, ranging from synthesizers and keyboard controllers to sequencers. Since then, the former software developer has thus also become a household name in the world of analogue synthesizers and other equipment.

Seamless integration into any setup

With MCU and HUI support, the Arturia KeyLab 49 Mk3 White connects seamlessly to all major DAWs via its rear-panel USB-C port. Once powered on, the controller's DAW mode can be activated, allowing users to load tailored control presets from the Global Settings menu. Supported DAWs include Ableton Live, Apple Logic Pro, Bitwig Studio, Image-Line FL Studio, and Steinberg Cubase. The high-quality keybed with semi-weighted keys, velocity sensitivity, and aftertouch delivers a natural and responsive playing experience. Built from premium materials, the Arturia KeyLab 49 Mk3 White is engineered for durability – perfect for both studio work and live performance. Its ergonomic layout also ensures a smooth, efficient workflow, even during extended sessions.

Great keyboard for its price

The KeyLab 49 MK3 is a nice keyboard. It looks nice and minimalistic. The control dials and faders have a nice resistance to them. The toch option works great. The big silver dial is not nice to handle unfortunate. Rotation to select a next/previous item is too precise. And when press the dial to select the item, it often rotates to the next item before selecting it one I intended. Rhis cause the wrong item to be selected.
The display is nice, clear with beautiful colors. It is very readable from lower angles.
The pads are too stiff in my opinion. And by default you have to tab very hard to get the max tab value. But this can be adjusted in the settings.
The keyboard is ok for the price. A good enough quality. The afterthouch is a little stiff, though.
You do not need an adapter when using USB-C. This is very great! It works perfect with my MacBook.
Using it with Arturia Analog Lab, selecting another patch is slow. But on a little faster on other Arturia virtual instruments. The sounds of Arturia's virtual instruments are amazing! Specifically DX-7 and OB-X.
I use Logic Pro 11 and the integration is very poor in my opinion. Arturia needs to really improve this. The integration with Ableton Live is much better. I tried customizing the integration with customizating the cc values, but that's really not fun.
Personally I still prefer hardware synths. Feeling the knobs and instant feedback without needing a computer is priceless. But as I mentioned, the Arturia virtual synths sound like the real syths for way less money ;-)

HP
Excellent Value
HDS Productions 21.11.2024
There is no shortage of keyboard controllers available, and if you need something very inexpensive and smaller is okay, you should have no problem finding what you need.

However, if you want a keyboard with a better quality build, great feel and excellent software package, I can highly recommend the Keylab 49 MK3.

Highlights are the keyboard does not feel clicky compared with some smaller models, the display is excellent, browsing is easy, the arp is a step up from anything standard and again; the sound options that are included are tremendously broad, and even nicely customizable, if not quite to the point of this keyboard being labelled as a sound designers dream.

Top keyboard-Controller
